Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra posted on Facebook on Friday for Thai New Year, wishing all Thais well and that the country will have an elected government by next Songkran.

“For this Songkran, I wish all the fellow Thai people happiness and good health,” Thaksin wrote.

“I want to be a moral support for everyone to get through any obstacle and let’s hope that in the next Songkran, we will finally have a government elected by the people.”

The post was the first since March last year. In the afternoon, KhomkaoTV24 Facebook page posted two photos of Thaksin pouring water on a Buddha image and his sister; former premier Yingluck Shinawatra and her son; Pike, pouring water on Thaksin's hands on the occasion of Songkran Festival.

The caption reads these happened in Thakin's residence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Constitution Court on Wednesday accepted the petition to review the constitutionality of the MP election organic bill. It is expected that the election currently planned for February next year will be postponed again.

Interesting....The "government' claiming they are doing their utmost to locate Yingluck...

She left without her son, who is a minor.....Still this young man has managed to locate his mother...:coffee1:

Well he would say that.

Clearly he wants to get back the money he rorted from thailand and its people while he was PM.

Plus his cronies must be feeling the pinch .

As long as we're wishing, I wish him a long and joyless life in Dubai.

Hopefully, as a despised foreigner. Perhaps with the government blaming him for all things amiss in Dubai, just as he has been doing since 2000...

Like it or not......The Thaksin Brand is alive and well......Any party supported by him and Yingluck will win by a landslide....:whistling:

If so, then I am truly sorry for Thailand! IMHO, Thaksin is a bad mix of Al Capone and Hitler. Thailand may not have a real chance of democracy until he is either dead, or retires from politics.

A post containing an aberrant misspelling of Thaksin's name has been removed.

A post containing a disallowed reference to the current PM has been removed.

And a post containing off topic speculations has been removed as well.

Yes, let the chips fall where they may.

Capone, maybe.  Anything beyond that is over the top.  Why would you compare him to genocidal monsters ?

Any reason why the editors thought this was newsworthy ?

1) The Thaksin Brand is still strong

2) Any party backed by him and Yingluck will win a landslide in a free and fair election

3) He is still very popular with a lot of people because of the 30-baht healthcare scheme

4) Corrupt?.....Yes.......But not to a greater extent than the politicians before or after him

5) He didn't need arms to control people

6) He actually managed to do a full 4 year term, before the army with support of the elite staged a coup

So yes it is newsworthy, because, like it or not, Thaksin still influences the political landscape in Thailand...

And it would be nice to have PM, that doesn't have Gen. before his/hers name...:coffee1:

Very eloquently written, you have a strong case in your favor.  Seems you and your Thai colleagues know what is best for the country.

I seriously doubt that. The sex industry in Thailand provides an income stream for the top cops and military officers. The cops get money from the brothels and bars and the military officers get money for trafficking underage girls to the brothels and bars.

I'm not a sex tourist or sexpat. I know that might be hard for you to understand.  The sanctimonious White Knight foreigners you find in LOS often think they're the only foreigners in Thailand that don't have sex with hookers. Well, I've got news for you, your not alone. And don't lecture me on the bloody military. I've been working with the US and UK military since 2003. As for the Royal Thai Army, they wouldn't stand a chance of defending Thailand's territorial integrity from any hostile invading force. The army here only exists to deal with internal unrest and to protect the socio-economically backwards patronage system at the behest of the Amart. Useless, lackey lapdogs. They're good at enriching themselves, shooting at unarmed civilians and beating new conscripts to death but that's about it. Prayuth himself is a clueless buffoon who likes to dress up as a soldier but would defecate himself if he were ever faced with a real battlefield. He's part of the so-called Eastern Tigers (total misnomer) mafia who originally enriched themselves by trading gems with the Khmer Rouge. He's threatened anyone who questions his wealth. Ever wonder why? No offense to your son.

vague contentless generalities; trouble is, even he and his rotten corruptness, through and through, look a decent alternative at this point;

we will see him n his again and ,strangely, if he is smart (?!) he should be planning a short reign and then another coup

Say what you want about Thaksin but he still got the moves and continues to show how far out of their depth Prayut and all the rest of his corrupt cronies really are. With one photo he just totally screwed Prayuts Songkran, that's power.

I had always thought Henrik was a traditional Thai name thanks for reaffirming my thoughts.

Underneath this facade of family unity and all, there's this burning desire to go back home, i'm yet to meet a Thai who doesn't love their homeland, food, culture and missing family and friends terribly, so they can put on an act as much as they like, but inside their hearts are broken....

I know that this photo/story will enrage Prayut and the Junta, so thanks Nation for publishing it.

It just must eat their souls to know that if a free and fair election were held today, either of these two would soundly defeat the Junta. Can you imagine going to sleep every night knowing that, despite all the effort and cheating that you can possibly muster, two 'fugitives' have the love of the Thai people and you do not?

The truly sad part is that the Thai people don't get the representatives that they want...

The truly funny part is the ulcers that these two give Prayut. :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

I have never met a Chinese/Thai  western educated multi-billionaire former Prime Minister, but I am sure he relates closely with your Thai associates that miss home.

Yes but they have been busy setting everything us to give everyone the ILLUSION that the new election was democratic. Nothing will change until the dinosaurs have died out.

It sounds like you are speaking to those in a Bangkok bubble.  There are still many who would be vote for a Shinawatra backed government.  Sutep said as much.  The military and its love of bling and unneeded weapons has achieved nothing for the Thai people accept defiling their choice as to who they wish elected.  Appointed MP's are an outrage and that is solely the army's doing.
