Need more time

Featured Replies

I've been living and working in Thailand on a Non - B visa. My time is up this April 30th and I won't continue working here. I need about one more month to get my affairs in order before I can return to the USA. I'm planning on doing a border run on April 30th and will have already cancelled my work permit and attended to my taxes.

Is my best option to just do a border run ????

Which border crossing is the best option ie; Mae Sai, Mai Sot ????

I've never done a border run before ..... what can I expect ????

Your only option is to do a border run unless you are the spouse or parent of a Thai in which case you could get a 60 day extension.

I'm not the spouse or parent of a Thai .  Where's the best border crossing closest to southern Lampun province ?

The crossing at Mae Sot in Tak province is probably the closest one to you.

Thank you ! At the risk of sounding stupid, are border crossings open on the weekends ?

Open every day of the year.

Yes, every day from something like 5am to 9pm (maybe some borders open/close earlier or later, but at day time they are always open)

Yes, but they close overnight.

I'm in a similar situation, however I will be going to Mae Sai tomorrow, but would like to know more about how to get the 60 day extension as I'm married to a Thai. What does it involve?

If you are doing this at Maesot, have a current issue US$10 note in perfect condition. That should be all you need for the Myanmar border pass. You can walk across the bridge between Thai and Myanmar immigration. That should be the total cost except, of course, travel costs.

EDIT: Note that what you receive reentering Thailand is a "visa exempt entry" not a tourist visa. The assumption is that you are a national of a country entitled to a visa exempt entry.

It costs 1,900 baht and should be applied for at your local immigration office.

You can extend any permission to stay, once, by 60 days to visit your wife. Your wife will need to be with you. The basic requirements are;

  • Original marriage certificate plus signed copy.
  • Signed copies of wife's ID and Tabien Baan.
  • Signed copies of your passport pages: ID page, visa, entry stamp, departure card.
  • 1 x photo 6 x 4.
  • Maybe they will want form TM30. This is the form used by the Owner/House-master to report that you are staying with them.
