Police Commander dissatisfied with police officers Songkran results

BANGKOK, 19th April 2018 (NNT) – The Commander of the Royal Thai Police has voiced dissatisfaction with the work of authorities during the Songkran holiday, especially with the commanding officers in three provinces.

Royal Thai Police Commander Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda held off on naming the three officers and their provinces, but indicated he was dissatisfied with their efforts during the Songkran holiday.

He said he is considering having the three transferred to posts at the National Police Operations Center, suggesting that the move would be due to their failure to adequately prevent road accidents and maintain road safety during Songkran.

Pol Gen Chakthip remarked that his impressions of the effectiveness of police work are based solely on public feedback.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan previously instructed the Royal Thai Police to maintain its stringent road regulations throughout the year and to coordinate with other agencies to further enhance traffic safety.

Inactive posts must be at capacity by now and may be the root cause of the commanders frustrations.

I am glad some Commanding Officers are in the shit, but I think a lot more than three failed miserably, so he should widen the net.

Strange statement that considering the PM stated earlier this week that he was largely satisfied with the Songkran festival this year......:whistling:

And the police commander of Phuket deserves a big reward...they should give him the monthly salaries of the 3 worst provinces' commanders.

It's not the RIP's fault. You cannot substitute brain with police force, as Gen. Prayut erroneously presumes.

If Thailand's police force only would finally scrap this insane "inactive posting" policy, where officers still receive full pay for having to do even less than they normally are, the force might actually have some funds to pay the remaining officers a decent wage that may not only serve as an incentive to carry out their duty more effectively but potentially also would help lower corruption. Additionally, the threat of being dismissed from the force altogether instead of being delegated to a comfy and stone-lazy posting might... uhm... "encourage" more officers to put their back into it.

But that is unlikely to ever happen as it would affect literally hundreds of obsolete police generals who are getting paid for visiting the golf course every other day -- and that cannot be in their best interest and they'd probably oppose any move towards an "inactive post-free force".

A few thousand more commanding officers need the boot. Then maybe a chance for RTP to become a real police force.

old saying * you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink* they certainly stopped a few thousand.

And so he should be !!!! But it's not really a surprise is it that results weren't forthcoming !!

Also you could throw a million officers at the problem but if you don't change the mindset and penalties your P*****g in the wind

Way I see it, there is really no deterrent - apart from being dead !

Maybe :

Drink drive , speeding and kill = 20 years, plus up to 5 years salary in compo, including loss of house if to be sold.

Drink Drive = 2 year ban.

Drink Drive x 2 = 5 year ban, car/bike crushed

Drink Drive x 3 = 1 year in prison , plus 5 year ban, car/bike crushed.

Drink drive/speeding injure someone = 100% responsible for ALL hospital costs to victim plus 1 year salary.

Drink drive x 3 within 1 year = 1 year in prison.

etc,etc.

Drink drive and kill 2 occasions = 40 years

Maybe , just maybe they might get the message.

All agreed, I especially agree with your words "...have neither the understanding of how to deal with it, or the inclination to actually enforce Road Law."

IMHO there is little doubt that senior and middle level cops simply don't know what to do, 99% probably have no knowledge or information about how this is handled (mostly with excellent results) in other countries and there's a good change they would ignore the information anyway.

How many have bought their way to the top? Many, meaning that they have no hesitation to be unethical in terms of promotion and also revealing why they are in the force at all - just to the top and join the big boys trough.

Nothing but a complete and absolute reorg. of the RTP will achieve anything, starting with removing all of the top 5 or 6 levels of cops and installing credible knowledgeable civilians or good military guys, all with absolute powers to demand change, and powers to severely punish those under them that don't change.

Also totally re-organize the recruitment process with professional proven assessment methods which identify more qualified people and more sincere candidates.

And at the same time one by one quickly investigate every one of the 5 / 6 levels of cops on 'home leave' using investigators from the civilian world, and prosecute and punish, mostly severe jail terms and confiscation of any ill-gotten wealth.

On the basis that they don't show up to do anything, one desk can serve all the inactive post holders whilst they can continue to draw their salaries and focus on their main business interests.  Its win win.

Put the Officers on a " Payment by results " salary.

No, you are reiterating a uk type system, that has been developed into the psychic of the masses over decades, that will do nothing overnight in Thailand other than cause chaos, it needs to start at the beginning with proper licencing.
