PHNOM PENH, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian authorities had arrested 4,845 drug suspects in the first four months of 2018, down 31 percent if compared to the same period of last year, according to an Interior Ministry's anti-drug department report on Tuesday.

Some 2,844 are suspected drug traffickers and the rest are suspected drug users, the report said, adding that 71 of the suspects are foreigners in eight nationalities.

The report added that 93 kilograms of drugs such as heroin, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, and ketamine, and 22 kilograms of dry marijuana, were confiscated during the January-April period.

It is estimated that the Southeast Asian nation has 20,621 drug addicts and nearly half of them have received drug quit treatment.

Cambodia has no death sentence for drug traffickers. Under its law, a person trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug will be jailed for life.
