Anyone experienced with air-cond like this noisy sounds?

hey guys

 

recently we cleaned the air-condition by the technician guy in the building,

then started working that day as usual with better cooling, until around midnight then started dropping down

the ventilator far is working, but the compressor stars on for about half minute then turned off for a couple of minutes and so on,

we changed the electric started as happened couple of years ago,

but the noisy sounds on and off remained the same with the new starter with no results,

we contacted a specialist of repair air-condition with explanation of the issue, he told us that in this case maybe the machine itself needs to be changed,

about the machine price he told will cost around 4000, without his installation fee,

To take the example of changing the started couple of years ago, we paid 1500,

which I bought it by myself from old Siam shop in the last day just paid 160 baht, this is by far 10 times,

 

However, need to check it out before start this repair, anyone had similar issue or have an idea about repairing air-condition?

Sounds like the fan is out of balance or something loose. Also check the late filter in the condenser box.

our mitsubishi stopped cooling efficiently last year(kept turning off the compressor), we tried fixing it with a really good specialist but it just didnt do work as good so we replaced it, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. If they cannot get it working without the higher cost replace it and put the money towards a new one

It should be easy to tell if it is the fan motor or compressor making the noise.  The clip may have downloaded corrupted for me but I did not see the fan blades turning.

Fan motor would be far cheaper to replace than the compressor.

Make sure the setting is not on 'Auto', this setting sounds as if it is switching itself off and on.

Lol.... @12 seconds and @29 seconds it sounds electrical scary to me.

 

The sticker would appear to suggest that the unit is 18 years old... if true, it deserves retirement vs a band aid

Also consider: my 11yo mitsubishi, in spite of repeated cleaning, for about a year just kept making ice and a crunching noise we got was basically ice crystals falling into the rotor vane. Eventually, they had the thing off the wall (inside unit and outside compressor) had it in bits, and cleaned it pretty much with a toothbrush. Since then it has behaved. But that must have taken 5 visits for servicing.

Sounds like the capacitor is dead, not expensive

The AC inductance motors used for the compressor and condenser fan very rarely fail. However the phase shift capacitor fie one, usually a black tubular 2-wire device, fails often. These are cheap and easy to replace , often not even requiring tools to make the connection. Failure of these can cause multiple symptoms from motor not starting to intermittent or even very weak motor function. Running with a weak capacitor can slow the fan/compressor operation, causing the motor to overheat and tripping its internal thermal breaker. Unit cools, breaker resets, cycle repeats. By 'starter' the OP may mean the capacitor, in which case he has already replaced it. The cycling action sounds very much like a thermal breaker popping though. 

 

One clue to a thermal breaker popping is that the on/off cycle time will change as the ambient temperature rises or falls. The off time will decrease as the outside air cools such as evening. The motor cools faster and therefore starts again sooner. 

 

Gurgling noise is very low freon levels in compressor. 

 

Always wash condenser cooling fins with a high pressure hose anytime you open the unit. This greatly improves efficiency. 

The sealed motor compressor unit should last 10 years or more, just like those in most kitchen refrigerators.
