There are many Thais who are quite considerate and helpful and are willing to help other people for nothing in return

You really dont need to speak broken English in posts , you are speaking to English speaking people , no need to speak like you are speaking to a bargirl

  • why kill yourself?....geez...dump her and move on...and I am not being insensitive...these guys need to grow up emotionally

As long as that cycle can continue there should never be a need to contemplate suicide - being able to walk away from, or turn your back on,  something that you have committed most of your time, money and heart to is a necessary skill for longevity in Thailand.

I suppose you missed some key information. He was broke and in debt for 50,000 GBP? Being 68 there's a good chance he had some health issues too, with no money for medicine or treatment. He had every reason to end it. He was living in a huge hole with no way out. The only "fix" was to borrow more money to get back to the UK and live there alone and broke. I don't know England, so have no idea what that would be like if old and broke with no place to live. Why does everyone assume the guy didn't weigh up all his options before jumping?

RIP but I do not have any sympathy for people lacking common sense!

Where there's a will, there's a way.  Think positive.

To blow ones life savings on a "Lady" is one thing, but to borrow 50'000£ from family and friends and then make a fast exit? He was fully aware, that he would never be able to repay the loans.
Something like this I call despicable behaviour.

Surely, his creditors will join in the RIP chorus, but from their point of view the RIP probably stands for
"Rot In Purgatory".
Cheers.

Nasty!  Were you a Swiss banker by any chance?

Watching football and playing chess after 68... to live for... Now I'm even more depressed.

Depends on the team!

Wales is the worst part of it, even the Romans left Wales and Scotland alone.

No mention of age of those involved, but I would be willing to bet the wife was probably half his age, and someone he could never get under normal circumstances, except in Thailand.

I think this is true of a huge number of expats living in Thailand.

“Every reason to end it”

I don’t buy that.

I don’t buy £50k of debt either.

This guy was a pretender. Blew 100k in 6 years and then got dough from his friends to bail him out and then bails out completely. On top of this he received £1000 a month and had a job as a teacher. So he basically blew £30k+ a year for 6 years and was renting a house in khon kaen. I'm sorry but this guy is a great example of what not to be. A complete mug.

Very sad case. R. I. P.

But it is quite exceptional. Many stories over the years similar, but invariably it involved stupidity or maybe naivety on behalf of the Farang. Apparently there are many people in the world who cannot say "NO" And of course this is often seized upon by their "try to look hi so to my friends and family" partners. Luckily I don't have the same problem. My problem is saying "yes". So I am often referred to as Mr Kineow. A burden, but I manage to live with it. 5555

Ahh, the old bash Thailand hobby by the uneducated and unwashed. like older guys in western countries don’t marry younger women......who is the President of the U.S? How olds his wife, I guess you never heard of Hugh Hefner, what about Woody Allen. The list goes on.

He still had his monthly 50 000 Baht pension

He could have declares himself bankrupt and eliminated the debt.

And not an act of cowardice

if i understood it right, he borrowed the money from friends,

so declaring bankruptcy does nothing.

secondly even if he had borrow from a bank with house as guarantee,

it takes 5 years or more from declare bankruptcy to being debt free in total poverty,

so at that stage he would be 73 if not dead already.

the part that is sad is his friends that now lost 2 million baht

and will never get a refund,

that was dishonorable

Bankruptcies and IVA can take one month to 7 years in UK...But better than the cowardice and projected guilt of inadequate idiot. No sympathy..

You can maybe exist on 250 a day, but I wouldn't call it living.

If you don't smoke or drink (and don't have any other vices) then 250 is more than enough.  That's 3 healthy pork/chicken rice or noodle dishes a day with water, some fresh fruit, and the rest on rent and electric/water/internet.  Transport to work shouldn't be more than 50 baht a day if you don't live miles away from your workplace.  Most westerners in Thailand keep their western lifestyle so spend way more than they need to on food.

"No sympathy"

First never trust a bar girl and don't married her

Good luck to her new man from Norway I hope he read this

Never spend more money than you have

RIP

What's the point of saying his problems were his own fault? That changes nothing.

It changes nothing now but it would have changed something if he'd seen sense beforehand.

The part about chess was tongue in cheek...  I have no idea what 70 year olds do.  Whatever it is it has to be more interesting than being dead, though.

Wife is 55, that means he met and married a 48 year old back in 2012?  Now the 55 year old wife has a Dane or Norwegian on the hook. Must be some woman.

The Sun reported that Thanyaporn had since moved to Norway having started a relationship with a Norwegian man.

Next victim ? ?

“Thanyaporn Donsakul who he married one month after meeting her in a bar in Pattaya in 2012.”

hopefully it will be a lesson for some others.

You could always cook your own food, 250bht buys a lot of pork and rice in Tesco.

Indeed.

Bon chance..seems to cover it.

You cannot "guarantee" that , you can only suspect that .

If you can actually guarantee that there is a "very happy Thai man" involved in this story, then, name him ?

The "I will guarantee" phrase was simply an English figure of speech and is not meant literally.

I have known John for a number of years, when he used to work and live in khon kaen, found out that he came from my old town in Wales and we hit it off and became good mates.

We read about stuff like this on a regular basis living in Thailand, just like you, i have even said,, another 1 bites the dust, and i hang my head in shame for the times i have said this.

When it happens to some one you know, its very sad, yes he have had problems, fighting his case over the past few years with his X wife, which has got know where, and he felt he was pissing in the wind, trying to get what was entitled to him.. John went back to Wales for a little while, maybe he should have stayed in Wales where he had family and friends.

What he did for my family while he was in Wales, even thow it was a simple gesture, but to me it was a thoughtfull and kind act, I for one will never forget that,, gone but not forgotten,, RIP Mate until we meet again.
