Transferring Tourist Visa to new passport - where to do in BKK and extension still possible?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I hope someone can give me advice with the situation below:

I am currently on a 2-month tourist visa (got it in Lao) and had to renew my passport afterwards (at the Dutch embassy in BKK) because it was full.

Next week I will pick up my new passport incl a letter for the Thai immigration (with an explanation why I got a new passport).

My questions:

-Which immigration to go to in BKK to get the VISA (or entry stamp) transferred to my new passport?

-Can I still get a 30-day extension with the transfered VISA/entry-stamp?

Thanks and best!!

Niek

Visas cannot be transferred.

You would need to do your 30 day extension and the stamp transfer at the same time. They would transfer your entry stamp and do a stamp with info about your old passport and visa used for entry. Then do the extension stamp in your new passport.

You will need a letter from your embassy requesting the transfer.

You would do it at the Chaeng Wattana immigration office.

Thanks Ubonjoe for your reply!

Is it really necessary to do the 'Entry Stamp Transfer' and the 'Extension' at the same time?

This because of some logistics I want to do the transfer next week and the extension at the beginning of June (this because I understood you can only do the extension 2 weeks prior to the expiry date).

Thanks!

Immigration will not transfer the entry stamp. They will tell you to do it on departure from the country.

They will only do the stamp transfer if you have an extension stamp in your old passport.

You can do the stamp transfer and extension at any immigration office if you have a local address to put on the TM7 extension application form.

Thanks again Ubonjoe.

Please let me check if I understand you right.

Please note: The expiration date of my current 2 month Tourist Visa is the 3rd of June.

Can I go to Chaeng Wattana immigration office next week (Wednesday the 16th) and arrange the Transfer & Extension during the same day/time? And does this need to happen in a certain order (e.g. first extension and then transfer?).

Or is it too early now to arrange an extension (I read somewhere that you cannot get an extension earlier than 2 wks before the expiry date of your entry stamp. Is this true?).

About the TM7-form, I have never used this form before, can I just add my hotel address here?

My goal is to make sure I can stay until the end of June (then I will fly out to Europe, no proof/ticket yet).

Thanks for your help and time! I appreciate it a lot!

If you go to Chaeng Wattana next week they will do both at the same time. They have been reported as doing it earlier than 2 weeks before.

They will first do the entry stamp transfer and the annotation in your new passport. Then do the extension in your new one.

You can use your hotel address on the TM7 form. Download, complete and print 2 sided this Fillable TM7 form.pdf ,

You are the best! :)

hi guys, i join this topic for the same issue

i've a 3 months ED visa done in march , valid till end of may (at the date i will extend the permit of stay using the new passport)

yesterday i got new passport from my embassy in bkk, and they gave me a latter for the immigration office, stating i have to go to transfer stamp from old to new passport with this letter.

is there a timing to do that ? let's say couple of days or so ?

do i need to photocopy all single page of the old passport ? horizontal or vertical ?

is there a cost for the transfer at Chaengwattana ?

thanks a lot

There is no urgency to do the stamp transfer. Just be prepared to show both passports until it is done.

You could do it at the sametime you apply for the extension.

You would only copies of the pages that have a stamp or visa for Thailand and the photo page of your old passport. Copies need to be vertical on the A4 sheets.

There is no fee for the transfer.

I did the very same at Chaeng Wattana 2 years ago:You do it on the same day, but in a way not at the same time:It's kind of 2 procedures/queues:First they transfer all the relevant information from your old to your new passport, then it is back to the photo copy shop to get all this photocopied, and then comes the application for the extension. So it will take longer than just a plain extension.I assume it is possible to do just the transfer and leave the extension for a later day.

  • 3 weeks later...

thanks a lot

i did it in two separate days. firstly i  transfered the stamp to the new passport, desk N2.  they checked all docs as well as all photocopy, about 1 1/2 hours waiting time from the moment i gave the passport and when  i got it back, stating then to queue N1 for the final signatures e double check. a day were gone.

question: the 90days report, is it not necessary to do it on the first extension of stay ? i'm not very sure, the info desk at chaengwattana was a bit confused. their website state so, the first extension is considered as 90 days report, or so. if someone is more acknowledges about that i would appreciate so much. avoiding going to chaengwattana again next week. cheers

The application for the first extension of stay is considered as doing a 90 day report. Your 90 day report will be due 90 days from the date you to the application.
