PHUKET: A man died after a fall from an eighth-floor apartment balcony in Patong yesterday afternoon (May 8) in what police believe is likely to have been a suicide brought on by health and financial woes.

Police and rescue workers were called to the apartment block, off Rat U Thit 200 Pi Rd, at about 3:30pm.

On the footpath beside the building was the body of the victim, a 58-year-old Swedish national*.

I sincerely hope that it was more than just a hospital bill of short to 25K baht, that was the underlying reason for this man to take the plunge out in the open air.

And Mr. Kusuma, one of the staff from the hospital that followed him to the appartment block???

"Police were also told that the man was prevented from jumping from the same balcony last Saturday (May 5) and was taken to Patong Hospital immediately afterwards."

Was he unaware of why he was taken to the hospital before? He just let him freely go up to the same floor and the same balcony to take the plunge.
Nice to know that there is hospital emplotees that really can conect the dots.

So are you saying that the hospital employee has some responsibility for ensuring that a discharged patient wont do some sort of self harm?

In somekind of way, yes. This was a man they knew had finacial problem, that already resulted in that he tryied to jump from the same place. If then follow the man to the same place to see a friend for help with payment. Yes, then I at least would expect a hospital employee to not let the same man up to the same floor alone.

If that happened anywhere else in the world, the hospital would be sued for millions.

Listen to your chosen name.

So, you mean that a psychiatrist that signs a person with depression out of the hospital without meds and proper care, do not have any responsibility if the person commits suicide.

only ever in USA can you sue something for millions.

24k sounds too low to be a reason to end it,

maybe a combination of a whole string of shit,

of which latest illness & corresponding bill was just another shitty day in pardise and he could make out the pattern that life sucks and only gets worse as he gets older

So please tell us in detail exactly what the Hospital Employee should have done. Physically overpowered him? Using as much force as necessary to accomplish the chosen goal? Arrested him? Put him in a "straight jacket"? Locked him in a padded cell?

Only poor people, jump out of the window.

:sorry: I could help you.

As everyone says you must have a minimum of 6 months salary in the bank. Just to live there

25k is peanuts. If one does not have enough money to seriously survive here, don't try to falsely hold onto a pipe dream. Drinking alcohol in bars is the one thing that will suck all of your money away leaving a hole of piss poor. Cheaper to buy bulk store booze or beer and then surf T.V at home. At least your monthly spending is drastically lower. Met many of people over the years, and oh so many can't cut it living here. Way too many. .

You cannot stop a suicide. You can possibly delay it until/if the victim's change their mind. Imo

Sounds as if he was on his last legs prior to arriving one year ago. Hurdles can become walls. These incidents of jumping seem to be on the increase. They are starting to give us ok people a bad light here within the upper ranks as they watch (little p Big P). As in so much now, I would bet they will they start to require a mental and mentality examination in order to get the non immigrant visa. Cockamamie as it sounds, but maybe not for here. At least we might here it presented for thought. Penguins can sort of fly.

Maybe his personality was not inviting and the Thai had no compassion for him; or perhaps just didn't think further into the what if? But on the other hand, I hear you in concern, as we should always be assured your health provider of that evening looks a little deeper and is more on the ball and caring..

Had little to do with the hospital except the guy would have signed into the hospital that he had funds to pay for services. He had none and they were nice enough to send a collection guy along to get paid. They don't send a psychiatrist to collect. The guy collecting most likely wasn't aware of the background.

Merkelig at så mange utlendinger hoppe fra balkongen i Thailand og ikke i hjem-land?!?

With age, move down on the floors of your block.
Are you 50 years old max floor 10 floor
Are you 49 years old max floor 9 floor
until you're sixty years old and you move to a house like the window height max 60 cm above the ground. if you get killed, it's murder.

Whaaaaaat.... hahaha :)

I believe 90% of them is murder anyway! Why pay a lot of money and travel to Thailand for jumping into death from a hotel-balcony?!?
