Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” Issued in China

Featured Replies

Or issued wherever.

During the initial 90 days are there any foreign travel restrictions on the holders of such visa's?

If none would they require re-entry permit(s) should they travel abroad during the 90 days?

First year is multi entry so no restrictions on travel. Every time you return you get another entry no problem.

Near the end of the first year do an out/in and get another year.

The second year you will need a re-entry permit each time you leave and return.

Don't forget 90 day reports if you stay longer than 90 days at anytime.

Not sure what you mean since a OA visa allows one year entries not a 90 day entry.

The OA visa allows unlimited entries for a year from the date it issued.

I believe visa holder can transfer to "retirement" status after 60 days is that correct?

Wouldn't be much point in doing that really.

You would need re-entry permits from day one and would need to re-new at the end of the first year. Each year showing income, 65,000 a month, or 800,000 in a Bank or bank with some in and income yearly added to add up to 800,000 for the year. eg 400,000 bank and 400,000 income.

90 day reports common to both.

You can only get a NON-OA in your home country or country of residence.

I guess if the visa holder is unlikely to travel much after the first year then  "retirement" may be a good option in addition locking in potential grandfathering if monetary requirements are increased in the future.

You may have guessed I am asking on behalf of  Chinese friends, one on this subject one on another. Needs a Chinese forum perhaps, there are an awful lot here now in need of info.

Sorry Joe, knickers in a twist, should be 90 day non immigrant (category O) but it looks like  the Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” may be a good option.

They probably would not be able to get a single entry non-o visa in China. A OA visa is the only one that embassies and official consulates will issue to a citizen or legal resident where a person is applying. I checked on the Beijing embassy website and they only show the OA visa for retirement. In Chinese here. http://www.thaiembbeij.org/thaiembbeij/th/thai-service/visa/information.php

They could enter on a tourist visa and do a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration and then apply for a one year extension of stay.
