The old shower tap was corroded, got the new one and I thought 10 min job.

How wrong could I be, for all I try I cannot get the fittings to seal, the pvc pipe in the wall has a brass insert.

I have tried thread tape insulation tape a mix of both but it still weeps.

Years ago I would have used Boss white & hemp for a permanent job.

Any Ideas Please

You have to use a LOT of PTFE tape, sometimes I twist the tape to drop into the grooves of the thread (usually only needed on larger fittings).

Are you sure the thread in the wall isn't damaged leaving a path through?

A goodly amount of PTFE, smear some silicone sealant on the outside, whange it all up and go for a beer to give the silicone a chance to start going off before turning on the water.

I've not seen Boss White here but I do have some black gunge "Amerkem Pipe Jointing Compound Type 51" which came from MegaHome, very effective on iron fittings but I'm not sure how it reacts with PVC.

I had a similar situation, internal brass thread cracked, fortunately I was able to replace easily but your problem is different,as Crossy suggests will be your best bet but do not tighten too much and give plenty of time for the silicone to cure

Personal experience to get these to seal is wrap tape 8 or 10x and then screw in the fitting, take out the fitting and then wrap another 10x for the second final install.
I found this works for me, trying to put too much on the first time just damages threads and is a bugger to get full thread depth. You may need more tape wraps, trial and error.....

Thanks chaps, got a magnifying glass to look at the brass insert and its cracked.

considering the fitting is tiled over it looks like its going to be a silicone job.
