This is from an article March 2018

Subject: Drunk Driving  Penalties Thailand

  • The legal blood alcohol limit for licensed drivers in Thailand is 0.05.
    For learner drivers, probationary drivers, taxi drivers, bus drivers, train drivers and all drivers of public service vehicles the limit is 0.00, zero alcohol.
    Passengers are not allowed to drink in any vehicle except trains.

I was sure that since the SRT banned the sale of alcohol on trains a couple of years ago, it also included the consumption as well?

When I travel on the train I now buy cans of beer in advance and put the opened can inside a cooler, preventing others seeing what it is.

I assume the taxi driver is also at fault because he/she allowed passengers to enter with alcohol clearly displayed nor told them to cap it and or finish it or stop and discard it.

in this case it seems the driver became co conspirator to help get 5000 for the cop.

thing is i've also been pulled out of taxi without alcohol for body search hoping to find a reason to shake me down but there was/is none.

question;

does the accused have the option of being ticketed with a real legal summons by the police at the road checkpoint?

i know it is the intent of the cops to squeeze cash but does the accused the right to actually have the cop write an official paper?

and if the cop at road checkpoint refuses to do so then what is next step?

I’m sure your native country strongly supports no drinking in public places. Why did you leave?

Usually I'm no fan of "If you don't like it here go home" comments, but I like what you've done here...

Was it a legal checkpoint? Were signs posted, and senior officer present? Besides, that. It is 10,000bht fine for DUI, so does 20,000bht for open bottle really sound correct? Worth checking.

refused to answer my questions as i was videotaping them. told me illegal to video, erase it and then he walked away. it was a big wel lit checkpoint

checked already open bottle passenger 10,000.(see image above thai language)  cop lied to try to make 5000 bribe seem nice. according to law the taxi driver is also liable for 10,000 fine and or 6 months jail but cop not interested in driver.
