Pattaya patches railway road

Repairs of the railway-parallel road behind the Pattaya Floating Market are scheduled for completion in August.

Duangdee Phumchuang, construction inspector with Thaiwiwat Engineering TW Co., led the work crew that used heavy machinery to begin digging up the road May 18.

He said the thoroughfare was damaged by repeated flooding and standing water that can’t drain following storms due to the railway road’s lack of sewers.

There are no plans to install such sewers or properly rebuild the road with concrete, however, as doing so would cost five times more than just patching the asphalt.

The current job – sure to be repeated in the future due to perennial flooding – is set for completion in August.

They have a bunch of absolute jokers doing the work. There is a section from Khaotalo to Kaonoi, going North, that had quite a rough section, so they milled it, and relaid an asphalt top. Within days it was falling apart, and now traffic is restricted to one lane as it has totally disintegrated and their are serious pot holes across the whole road. At night or in the rain, it is very dangerous. No sign of them coming back to fix the disaster they have created so far either.

And I thought such happens only in our Isan backwater

this reminds me of the back roads to Na Jomtien   (via B2 hotel ) and how it floods out all the time with continuous standing water and they installed the drains in the MIDDLE" of the road instead of the sides !!!   what a disaster !!!

It's every year after the rain. Floodwater causes the soil to liquify and potholes hello. Won't change unless they build a gigantic tunnel to take the flow from khaotalo (here's a hint: khao means mountain and thanon rodfai is partly in the lowest dip in the area) all the way to sea.

Wouldn't hold my breath of that happening.
