BANGKOK — Some observers were surprised when a splinter group of pro-democracy protesters succeeded in marching on the Government House – and nearly reaching it – Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of military rule.

But that morning, a plan was hatched by leaders of the Democracy Restoration Group when it became apparent thousands of police would block the main group from departing Thammasat University’s Tha Prachan campus, according to a source close to one of the leaders.

'Amorn Wanichwiwatana, who helped write the new constitution, said Wednesday that it was written to make its guarantees of such liberties secondary to existing junta orders.'

And there we have it - from the horse's own filthy mouth. The wonderful 'Constitution' was specifically written to take away basic human rights and liberties. I (and others here) have said repeatedly: Look at the wording of the Constitution, where every 'right' it bestows is immediately followed by the clause, 'unless this is against good morality of people'. And who decides what 'good morality of people' is? Why, the scummiest, most immoral and unethical people imaginable: the junta and their fascist overlords.

Well more fool the people for voting 'Yes'. It was blindingly obvious even at the time that the junta was up to no good.

Maybe people's eyes are now beginning to open to reality. Can only hope

What one can hope for is a large turnout of the majority of registered voters to vote in the next election. The Constitution referendum passed with 54% of a 61% total voter turnout or about one-third of the registered voters that approximates the size of loyal pro-military supporters. It does no good to have eyes open if not backed by action. A 80% turnout should give pro-military politicians their proper place in Thai politics - retirement.

It might have been written by Confucius himself:

"The ideal world espoused by Confucianism is a moral community in which its members, by appropriately controlling their desires through their innate moral emotions, abide by the social order and contribute to the realization of public virtue."

I perfectly illustrates the gulf between them and the demonstrators, the supporters of the demonstrators, modernisers and...........us.
