Extension of an extension non immi o

Featured Replies

 Hi,

I am currently on a non-immigrant o One year extension based on marriage and was wondering if it is possible to get this extended for another 30 days!?

I just need a few more weeks before I leave the country and I don’t have the money to extend it for a year so I am looking for a cheap solution

Thank you

Afaik you can get a 60 days extension to visit your wife. If you search for this here on Thaivisa you probably find more infos

You can't extend an extension.

You can get a 30 day Visa exempt entry by crossing the border and re-entering, then extend that for another 30 days.

That's only possibly on Non Imm O Visas if married to a Thai.

You can't extend for 30 days, but you can extend for 60 days to visit your wife (same cost as 30 days) as long as you haven't had a 60 day extension since you last entered the country.

It costs 1,900 baht; your wife will need to be with you when you apply. There are no financial requirements to meet.

You can. You are extending your permission to stay, whether directly from a visa entry or an extension of stay.

Any permit to stay can be extended, once, by 60 days if married to a Thai.

Not according to my IO.

They refer to section 2.18 under which an 1 year extension is obtained 'Each permission shall be granted for no more
than one year.'

Different interpretations of the rules again?

They or you are certainly reading it wrong.

That is just for an extension under that clause not any other one that can be applied for that extension when it ends.

Them, not me. Had this argument with them last year.

60 day extension is applied for under section 2.24. 'In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:t'

Their interpretation is your not 'visiting' Thai wife if you had a 1 year extension, your living here.

Pointed out an example of an oil worker mate, (30 on/30 off) who is on extension based on marriage (same IO) with a multi re-entry permit, that he obtained after being pulled at Suvarnabhumi for to many Visa exempt entries.

Couldn't classify him as 'living' here.

Can't win with these people when they get something stuck in their head. No logic, or common sense and don't want to lose face.

That condition (in bold) simply means that 1 year is the maximum stay they can grant for that extension of stay. They can issue a shorter stay; for example when a passport has less than 1 year remaining. A new 60 day stay permit would be a completely new stay, and not an extension (continuation) of the ending 1 year stay.

There is nothing in the rules/regulations stopping your IO from issuing a new 60 day stay to someone that is ending a 1 year stay. The only restriction is one 60 day extension per entry.

IMO the reason your IO gave was either through lack of knowledge of the rules or a dodgy interpretation. Probably the former because I doubt offices get many people requesting 60 days at the end of a 1 year extension. I've had a 60 day extension between two 1 year extensions so I know from personal experience that it's possible.
