An army paratrooper from a camp in Lopburi was severely injured as he completed a parachute jump in Chonburi.

Sub-Lieutenant Pracha Diwut, 35, was found face down by a roadway near the Nong Khor reservoir in Sri Racha.

He had an injury to his left leg but was out of danger now, doctors said later Monday.

Local Kamphon Inthasorn, 29, said that the paratrooper was about 20 meters off the ground when he was caught in a vortex and propelled into trees then slammed into the road.

As a former earth dart with Uncle Sam, I have seen gusts of wind carry many a paratrooper away from the intended drop zone.

I'm the one in camouflage.

The Army National Guard Unit (United States) I was in, nearly lost a guy to drowning when the wind filled his chute and dragged him through a pond near the jump zone.

Mate ended up with two broken knee caps when a gust caught him and blew him sideways, caught his ankles on a roadside wire fence and he landed on his knees, long time to recover from it.
