Can Thai wife's proof of finances be used to get foreign husband a 1 year extension on Non O?

Featured Replies

Can a foreigner (male) who is married to a Thai use his wife's finances as proof for a 1 year extension on a Non O?

Just curious as we all know the husband can show 400,000 in his account. Is it acceptable to immigration if there is 400,000 in his wife's account?

It has to be in a account in your name only. You would need to open an account and move the 400k baht into it.

No.

You might get away with a joint account (depending on the office where you apply), but the money must be in an account in your name, and they may insist it’s in an account solely in your name.

They don’t need proof of where the funds have come from so you could use your wife’s money.

A long time ago it was possible to have combined income considered but I can;t remember what year it was changed to be the expat's money in the bank or income per year.

Maybe someone out there can remember, I'm guessing early to mid 2000's but I'm really not sure.

Current regulation states;

(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual
income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a
bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

Yes, joint income was accepted before the Thaksin era, now it has to be in "foreign man" bank account or income.

Foreign ladies do not have to show financial proof when married to a Thai man.

The wife's income or both combined and joint accounts were only allowed by police order 549/2549 in 2006 to 2008 when police order 777/2251 was issued.

Thought it was 2000 something but couldn't remember the year. Should have remembered because that was the year we got married, officially, 2008 ie signed papers.

It was maybe 2 weeks ago someone posted a thai form that was completely in thai asking what it was.

I cant find the thread now but remember it was a form for a thai person to list and guarentee dependants.

I thought that might have been used in a case like this perhaps?

Interesting there is no mention of a Thai man marrying the alien wife. Is there a different regulation for that or does it just not happen?  ?

Same clause of the police order. Not mentioned since no financial proof is required for a woman married to a Thai man.
