I want to do a video project for a few days, indoors, and need to rent some floodlights. Anyone know where to rent them in Bangkok?

what kind of lights do you want to hire?

the only hire companies for video or film lighting here in bangkok are for either film or tv production and hire costs are high

I want to film a couple of people cooking Thai food; since it will be indoors, the light on the camera will be insufficient. A couple of photographer's lamps would help a lot. Photographer's lamps have a metal reflector shield, and a fairly bright bulb, have a tripod base, and can be adjusted up and down to change the position of the lamp and eliminate shadows.

I have done a lot of cooking productions for TV in a lot of different places.

Its not as simple as you might think as there are several factors to consider.

First and foremost you need to consider the location especially here in LOS; ventilation and humidity - that means your gear needs to acclimatise to the surroundings before you start rolling the camera.

Second factor is lighting and location of lighting. There are many reflective materials in kitchens lighting needs to be considered carefully, and kitchens as the saying goes tend to be fairly hot, adding lights will clearly increase the heat especially with something like 3 or 4 800w read heads.

I would recommend Kinoflo 4ft x 4ft bank above the cooking and presenting area and 2ft x4ft fills either side if you can’t get the Kinoflo. These are fluorescent based lights that emit no heat if you cant get them, then go for dedo lighting kit and some towels

This could be over the top for your budget but the results are worth it and if you want to intensify the “reds” in prawn, chillies etc then use a Schneider enhancing filter 68-100056

Have worked with Siam light before and they have some nice new Arri equipment, and I think they have from 125w up but you may need the ballast too so may get pricey!!!
