BANGKOK — When a party recently formed by close aides including the brother of former firebrand politician Suthep Thaugsuban convenes for the first time Sunday, it will be graced by a very special guest: Suthep himself.

Party co-founder Anek Laothamatas confirmed Suthep’s attendance Thursday, even as he tried to dismiss the notion that the group, called Palang Prachachat Thai (Power of Thai People’s Nation), is a vehicle for the former Surat Thani representative and his staunchly pro-establishment faction.

"The party is set to hold its first executive meeting at Rangsit University. Anek expected “as many as 1,000 people” to attend. Key policies and party leadership will be approved in a vote that day. "

I thought that political meetings of 5 or more people were still illegal.

Only anti-junta gatherings/parties

or those that don't have their snouts buried up the backsides of the amart.

Can see that this vile worm is slowly slithering back into things. If I were Prayut, I'd be distancing myself from this toad. This guy should be in jail...but he's becoming like untouchable as he knows too much. I can only hope that when the next generation comes into power he will be brought to justice for his misdeeds.

"Palang Prachachat Thai"

Another soon-to-be addition to the list of Thai political parties to sink without a trace. I would have thought this guy was the kiss of death and should have been kept far, far away at all costs..

Still, their choice I suppose. 'Ye shall know them by the company they keep...'.

Does anyone know if fragmenting the pro-junta vote has any effect on the make up of MP's? Or did that door get closed in Prayuth's electoral stitch-up rules?

Why?  The P.M.is fond of toads, or so we are told.

Yes ratchatcher, that may be correct. Tbh, because he is, imo, a liability and a hate figure......but Prayut and me obviously do not think the same unsurpringly, just thinking out loud if I was him and nothing more. Prayut should cast off these types as they have now finished their usefulness and perhaps should be tossed aside, like the political monk...they just haven't got the sand to throw Suthep under the bus just yet...shame.

Only a 1,000 attending!!! for party of incumbent heavy hitters and a very special guest. The Future Forward Party has twice that number in attendance.

It is tempting to single Suthep out for his highly visible role in 2013/2014. However it would be misleading to believe he did it only on his own initiative. He played the role of the bad guy, and surely did it happily. But the others participants to the orchestration of events that eventually led to a coup (the Dems, the Judiciary, the bureaucrats, the EC, etc...and of course the army) are just as guilty as him.

The party crasher himself.  The man who installed those who would give Thailand frivolous, wet blanket, non reform.  The man who took hope and fun away from his countrymen.  The junta's concubine.
