We plan to spend a few days in Doi Inthanon starting around 11 June then head north for a night in the Mae Rim area before going on to Chiang Dao.    My question is it possible to exit Doi Inthanon NP and get on route 1096 via Samoeng and on to route 107?    Using my road map this looks possible but google maps a different story.     

I think your best way from Doi Intanon is via the 1013 or 1009/108 which runs North into Chiang Mai, at Hang Dong your choices are then West via the Samoeng loop on the 1269 or East on the Ring Road via the 121, they both empty out into Mae Rim at a broadly similar point - the former is the more scenic route by far, the latter being faster.

 

EDIT: I just found a google route which describes what I've set out above, I can't post the link because the API is not supported so I suggest you type in "Doi Inthanon to Mae Rim route", into your browser and you should see the detail.  Any other back road route in that area is likely to be very tough going.
