Zhangxifu, Briggsy said it all..  Nothing to see or do on either side of the crossing. This is strictly a visa money machine for both countries..

I guess the flight to Singapore or KL might be a good alternative if you just want to travel. Otherwise it just costs more, takes more time and aggravation with airlines and airports, and twice the problems with immigration drones in both countries.

For me it was a pleasant drive, short border interaction, and minimum cost.

As for riding your bike, be aware that the road is VERY convoluted and not very good in places (surprised?). Plenty of opportunity to go wrong. Take a GPS And a printed copy of your route if you attempt this from BK.

Anybody been recently ?

Will be going again on Monday and am wondering if it will still be like last time 3 months ago when only my passport made the crossing and I waited in Thailand for its return.

Don't like this set up since if they lose your passport the inconvenience is truly huge .

Any replies appreciated.

I searched a lot this forum and you are the only one who got a stamp without going with your passport.

Yes......I have been waiting to hear what the latest development is. I have used that crossing nine times and it only happened on the last run.

Having said that, since the border there opened for the first time there have been several changes in procedure and a gradual increase in the cost.

Compare this to Mae Sot where nothing has changed either in price or procedure for several years.

I actually ended up going to Mae Dot.

The upgraded road is about two thirds complete now and is a big improvement. Hotels in Tak remain as excellent value.

Correct since you only pay for the border pass since you can walk across to Myanmar.

At Ban Phu Nam Ron you cannot walk across (to far for most people).

Yes it is near the airport in Mae Sot.
