Nongprue is ready for rain

PATTAYA:--The rainy season is staring us in the face, but Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit says he is ready.

Mayor Mai said 90% of ongoing construction projects are completed as of May 31, and the rest will be finished by 2019. Last year, he said, many of the projects were still underway causing the area to suffer heavier than normal flooding. This year, he says, that won’t be the case.

Finished projects include canal clearance along the railway road near Moo 11 and 12 to make sure the water flows into Naklua Canal without backing up. Rubbish, tree branches and mud has been, or is being, dug up and removed to help facilitate water flow and prevent floods. Pattaya City Council has been removing buildings and facilities encroaching all local canals as well.

So soi Khao Noi is not in Nongprue or was that 90% of works completed only last week, because that soi is worse than it has ever been.

And always will be until people stop putting plastic bags of rubbish on the road reserve when rain is expected, they all end up being carried down to bypass road by the torrent of water coming down the hill.

The rainy season will be upon us soon.  What has it been doing the last month?

Khao Noi has been deteriorating ever since they resurfaced it a few years ago. I swear, they put in the new roadway and within weeks it was being cut up and shoddily repaired as almost every frikken business on the soi seemed to need new water (and/or sewer) lines that they didn't know about BEFORE the road was re-done. Now it's a bumpy mess of uneven pavings, potholes and poorly done "upgrades".

Currently I've seen just one small area of concern on Khao Noi and that is the small section past The Chill mall (heading up Khao Noi) where they've dug up the road just before the curve - to the great surprise of many who come down Khao Noi and suddenly encounter a whack of cars and motos in their lane because the lane going "up" is blocked off.

Some time ago the city did add yet another sewer line, almost in the middle of the soi down in the stretch around where the Bangkok Bank outlet is. I see that the garbage problem hasn't been solved (of course) though as every time it rains, all that plastic and other crap ends up in the sewer until it gets to the grates just before the Railway Bypass road. Then it gets clogged up in the grates as the water flows out (and stays there until enough traffic has passed over them to grind the top of the plastic off so the rest can drop back down into the sewer.

It amazes me at how much there is, every - single - time - it - rains. And that doesn't include all the crap that doesn't get caught up in the grates ! Just on the one soi !

But it is kind of nice being on the "upper" part of the hill and watching all the water drain away as fast as it falls, knowing it's flooding out all the "lowlanders" further down the soi !
