They are not insane. Around 15 to 16 major national economies cross or hover right around the individual 1% mark of annual global emissions. Examples include nations like Japan, Iran, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Brazil, South Africa, the UK, and Australia. Combined, these individual mid-sized emitters make up a massive slice of the worldwide total despite each individual share looking small on paper. Cumulative Impact Countries that each emit roughly 1% or less of the global total collectively account for over 30% to 36% of all worldwide emissions. This combined total of smaller and mid-sized emitters exceeds the total output of the world's single largest emitter. Collective action by the 1% polluters has a big impact on reduction of global emissions.
