Driving Licence

Can I get a thai license on an a tourist visa? My aus licence exp late July and would like to get thai one before

Thanks

Depends on where you stay

You need a certificate of residence from immigration to get the driving License.

For example Bangkok immigration won't give you one when on a tourist visa, Udon Thani does.

straight swap over but you will have to do the eye tests etc, you do need to be able to show proof of residence, I got car and bike licence from my aussie one, the guy running the truck licencing wanted a back hander to swap my heavy licence over so I told him to go **** himself. I got mine on a 3 month visa but I was married to a thai, first licence is a 1 year one then you go to 5 years, I am letting my aussie licence run out as I can just get it back flashing my thai licence if I ever want it again, out of Bangkok seems to be the easiest places to do it

From my understanding its a no, however they did used to give out Thai driving licenses to tourist visa holders but put a stop to that, as they did to opening up bank accounts.

As I said above, this is from my understanding, but someone else might correct me, if I am wrong.

If your not going back to Australia, you can apply from here to get your renewal (once), I did this, link attached.

I completed the photo kit one, but things are a little different now as I believe you have to get the Australian Embassy to certify who you are, but have a read if it helps, I didn't as I renewed mine for 5 years about a year ago and didn't have to go to the Australian Embassy.

That is what l believed in the main and a Oz mate took a test for his m/c Thai DL because he needed a IDP from Oz.

Yes, prior to living here I was on a tourist visa, and I would require an IDP to accommodate both my motor vehicle and Motorcycle licenses.

When I moved here, I had to get a letter from immigration confirming my address here, copy of passport, extension of stay, 90 day stamp, yellow book and pink ID, the latter two I don't think are an actual requirement, but every piece of paper counts here in the LOS because its Thai gold and everybody loves to touch it, then I sat for the eye test, accelerator and brake test and watched the Thai video of which I didn't understand, got 2 years of which I just renewed for 5
