University Student Dies After Collision with Truck in Chonburi
An incident occurred on October 12, when a university student riding a motorcycle collided with a parked pickup truck, lost control, and was tragically crushed by a passing truck. The incident happened on Bang Na-Trat Road in Chonburi, leaving the young student dead at the scene. At approximately 11:20 Pol. Lt. Col. Chaikrit Chotipiriyapokin, an investigator from the Mueang Chonburi Police Station, received a report of a fatal accident involving a motorcycle and a trailer truck. The accident occurred on the inbound lane towards Bangkok at kilometre marker 53+13 in Klong Tamru sub-district, Mueang Chonburi district. Rescue teams from the Tri Khunatham Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a white Hino trailer truck parked by the side of the road. Nearby, a damaged white Yamaha Fino motorcycle lay on the ground. Tragically, the body of Mr. Nantachit (last name withheld), a bachelor’s degree student at a well-known university, was discovered under the truck’s rear left wheel. He was wearing his student uniform at the time of the accident. According to Mr. Anupol (last name withheld), 28, the truck driver, he was traveling from Laem Chabang Port to Samut Prakan province. As he approached the accident site, the motorcyclist veered into his path after brushing against a parked pickup truck. Despite his efforts to brake, Mr. Anupol could not avoid the collision, as the motorcycle had already fallen under his vehicle. Authorities will review additional CCTV footage from the scene to investigate the incident thoroughly and proceed with legal action. Footage from the truck’s camera captured the moment the student was speeding on the left side of the truck before losing control and hitting the parked pickup. The collision caused the motorcycle to fall, resulting in the student being run over by the trailer truck, leading to his immediate death. Picture from responders. Hotel Cleaner Arrested for Stealing From Guests in Patong
A hotel cleaner has been arrested after allegedly stealing $1,800 from three foreign tourists staying at a Patong hotel. The reported thefts occurred on three separate occasions in different rooms. According to the Patong Police, the incident first came to light earlier this week when three foreign tourists, who were not unidentified, reported the theft to local authorities. They told police that the cash, which had been kept in their hotel room, had gone missing. Police launched an investigation at the hotel, gathering information from staff regarding room access and reviewing CCTV footage. Their attention quickly turned to a female cleaner who had been assigned to the rooms. Although she initially denied any involvement, police said that after several hours of questioning, she confessed to stealing the money. The cleaner was able to return the full amount to authorities and was taken to the Patong Police Station for further legal proceedings. The names of both the tourists and the suspect have been withheld by police as the investigation continues. Picture courtesy of Patong Police -- 2024-10-13 -

I visit Thailand once or twice a year for 2 or three weeks at at time. I have an AIS sim card which I got a few years ago but keep it active by topping it up occasionally so as not to have to get a new one each time. Can anybody tell me what is the best plan for internet, data, call, messages etc. and how to buy it. Until recently there seems to be have been lots of options but all I can see now is one or seven day plans. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you -

Police Raid Nonthaburi Karaoke Bar Catering to Vietnamese Nationals: Weapons & Drugs Seized
In the early hours of October 12, 2024, at around 01:00 a police team led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Prathana Phanpha, Commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, raided an unregistered karaoke bar located in Buathong 3 Market, Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. The raid was conducted following reports of illegal drug activity and the venue operating beyond legal hours. Officers from the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, including the Special Operations Unit and Bang Bua Thong Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Phruth Chamrunsaart, Superintendent of Bang Bua Thong Police Station, and his team, discovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs, including ketamine, ecstasy, and crystal methamphetamine, behind the bar counter. Additionally, a 9mm handgun with three bullets was found. The raid resulted in the arrest of three Vietnamese nationals: Mrs. Ho Thi Bien, 28, Mr. Hoang Duc Anh, 35, and Mr. Nguyen Huu Long, 31. None of the suspects could speak Thai, requiring a translator during the investigation. The suspects claimed they were only caretakers of the establishment, receiving a monthly salary of 15,000 baht, while the actual owner of the bar was Thai. Pol. Col. Phruth stated that the raid was part of a broader crackdown on illegal establishments, particularly those involving firearms and narcotics. The police had been monitoring this karaoke bar which catered exclusively to Vietnamese customers. The venue had only been in operation for about 10 days, but police swiftly moved in once they had sufficient evidence. Drugs seized included 121.4 grams of ketamine, 11.5 grams of crystal meth, and 61 ecstasy pills. The suspects face multiple charges, including possession of illegal drugs with intent to distribute, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illegal entry into Thailand, and working without a permit. The police are now seeking the Thai owner of the establishment for further questioning, and the bar has been ordered to shut down. Pol. Col. Phruth emphasised that law enforcement in Bang Bua Thong will continue to strictly enforce drug laws and prevent any further illegal activity in the area. All suspects have been handed over to the investigating officers for prosecution under Thai law. Picture from the police raid. -- 2024-10-13 -
