Five youths arrested for using FB to organise road races

By The Nation

Tourist Police and Samut Prakan police have arrested five young men for allegedly using their Facebook page to organise motorcycle racing on Samut Prakan roads.

Deputy Tourist Police chief Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal announced the arrests at a press conference at the Samut Prakan police head office on Friday night.

The five suspects were identified as Ashita Mongkolcharoen, 19, the administrator of the Dunlo Samut Prakan page, and four alleged accomplices – Warut Uammalee, 24, Jitkorn Somkrabuan, 20, Chai (not real name), 18, and Raj (not real name), 17.

Surachet said the page, which has 8,437 followers, has been used to encourage road racing among youngsters in Samut Prakan and neighbouring Bangkok.

That was already reason enough.

Prasat near Surin has problems with teenagers racing their motor bikes on the main roads around town . The noise is deafening , the actions dangerous as they race along side normal motorists . Most do not  wear crash helmets and often 2 or 3 on the bike .  Complaints have been made to the police but nothing has been done  . It seems to be even worse on a Friday evening when the local market is being held . I suppose that there is not a law in Thailand that limits the decibels emitted from a vehicle / motor bike .

Is this a common problem throughout Thailand ?

Yes, it's everywhere.

we live on a one way soi1in pattaya, it is about 1/4 mile long, straight and narrow with tons of tourists and locals walking on any given day.The amount of wrong way speeders is insane,(of which is 100% thais )with no regard ,just defiant ,feeling entitled and emboldend, even blowing their horns at people with children walking ,as these thai idiots on scooters speed pas. We have complained  and nothing is done,BUT the same fat cop arrives each week, sits with his scooter taxi bullie pals ,and shakes down , tourists as the drive slowly the wrong way down our soi1, oblivious to the real crime....this disgusting behavior and lack of enforcement is why thialand is a lost cause

Its a common problem everywhere, and yes there ar laws

the term ''Racing''...I would hope it incompases even one(1) person speeding(racing) with even a loud exhaust...they are in fact ''Racing'' and which should have a more severe penalty than speeding...

There is a law about decibel level

it is lack of respect for other people me first generation and lack of police work
