BANGKOK, 20th June 2018 (NNT) – The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom this week, during which he intends to enhance bilateral relations and boost investor confidence in the Thai economy.

In his remarks on a planned visit to the UK from June 19-22, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha pointed out that the trip is in line with the European Union’s resolution to upgrade its relationship with Thailand.

He confirmed that discussions will be held concerning Thailand’s progress in all respects, especially the economy, trade and investment and the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor.

The Prime Minister added that election-related procedures being implemented under the government’s roadmap will be thoroughly explained to the UK in a bid to bolster confidence in the Thai democratic system.

He is adamant the pursuit of former Prime Ministers Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra, who are reportedly living in exile in the UK, will not be brought up as the matter is already in the hands of responsible agencies.

As for possible demonstrations by dissidents in the UK, Prime Minister Prayut said he isn't worried, admitting they have the right to do so within the bounds of the law.

He might have to tell another a lie about the elections He confirmed that discussions will be held concerning Thailand’s progress in all respects, especially the economy, trade and investment and the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor. Does all respects include Democracy ?

The 'roadmap will be thoroughly explained to the UK'.

He and his kind love to 'explain' Thailand to the world, don't they? The underlying implication is that the Thais are so advanced and the rest of the world so dumb that they need everything 'explained' to them.

The reality, of course, is quite the opposite.

Big fat hope or rather hopeless. Investors just hate uncertainty. You created uncertainty with your election promises.

Who would invest when 51 % has to be owned by Thais , who are very untrustworthy in business as in  many other aspects of their life.

How about that. They all look like corrupt evil crooks. Why did the UK even let him in? Military dictators are welcome now it seems. Wouldn't surprise me. We've got May, who's managed to trash the country singlehanded. What's to lose?

Think any Gov over the last 30/40 years trashed the country...

Investor confidence will not return properly until they see what the deal is after an election is called (and it actually happens) and can see how it will all pan out...until then most sensible investors will hold off. Also, change the 49% business ownership nonsense rule, which most Thai branches of the world's Chambers of Commerce have been saying to do so for years.

Yes investors will think about it and when their experts advisers find that little gem 49/51 per cent ownership to Thais it will be ROFL time, i can just imagine it now!
