cbatson
I've heard various stories about the rules of foreigners owning vehicles in Thailand, but I don't know what the real deal is. For example, I've heard that a foreigner may own only a motorbike, if one has a work permit. What I want to know is, may a foreigner legally own a normal car (i.e., be the named owner on the title or "tabien rot"), and if so, under what circumstances (is a work permit required)? Thanks, Chuck
Thetyim
Yes you can definitely own a car here as a falang. You do not need a work permit and you do not need house papers. You must have a non imm visa and get confirmation of residence from the immigration police. I know of three falangs that have done this and have seen the registration papers with their name on it. pschef
I can confirm the above is true, I have both car and bike in my name. As Thetyim says the procedure is correct.
