Hello I went by the local state shop for these background checks and was told there is the traditional one with a stamp that is $30, and there is some online version that gives a code, or cerfication with a code, but no stamp for $15 ; I wondering if anyone has tried using the  non-stamped version   for an OA or METV  at the Los Angelas Thai Consulate  by chance??

Consulate says

*6. Four copies of police verification stating the applicant has no criminal record issued by the authority concerned of his/her nationality or residence.  The verification must not be more than three months old. Please note we will not accept the receipt for Request for Live Scan Service unless it includes the actual report/results

Local Office says

You may obtain an instant criminal history record check online  The criminal history record report will be emailed once payment is received online. However, please check if the agency you will be submitting the clearance to accepts online printouts. If they do not, you will have to mail your request and payment to the Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC) Unit.

I don't really know what a Live Scan is, but  either way,  be nice to know ,   if anyone  has  gotten   a    METV or OA  without   an embossed seal ;  I suppose  I can take the     "online printout" and get It  notarized    ....... maybe just pay the $30  and forget it

A background check is not required for a multiple entry tourist visa application (METV).

For a OA visa a online background check will not be accepted unless it is signed a stamped.

From embassy website that is a little clearer.

"7.  Letter of verification stating that the applicant has no criminal record (verification have to valid for not more than three months and must be issued from a state or Federal Bureau of Investigation only. ( Online criminal record without authorized signature is unacceptable )"

Best to pay $15 more and get one with a stamp.

I had that visa before I got my retirement visa.

If you work it right you can get 9 months (maybe 10?) out of it.

I got mine in LA and did not have to do a Livescan, unless they have changed.

If you need one, search it there are many Livescan places at copy shops, etc.

They take your fingerprints and send them online for the check.

The problem is it can take 6 to 8 weeks or more as the FBI checks are backlogged (what else is new).

I also I had show flights and hotels reservations.

Good luck.

I did O-A a few years back. Look at the FBI website. The FBI has a list of approved companies that can give you the FBI background check within 3 weeks and signed and not too expensive. If you don’t use these approved companies and try to save like 15 dollars and deal directly with the FBI then the FBI website said it would take 6 months or so to get your background check document.

I first tried using local law enforcement background check and wasted my money.  Washington DC thai embassy rejected it and told me to get an FBI background check and resubmit my O-A application.

I got mine through a County Sheriff's office in California.  I made the request and picked up a signed letter two days later.  The Thai LA consulate accepted it for my Non-Immigrant O-A visa without question.
