Shouldn't the price be a quote for the whole job?  Calculate the cubic metres required & divide by 5 to get the number of 5 cubic metre trucks?  If you pay by the truck, they might underload the trucks.  Just asking...

I'm in the process of converting 3 rai of ride paddy.

I've decided to dig a pond to save money and use the dirt as fill and build a levee.

Might end up buying some dirt too if necessary.

As I'm planning on including some fish farming this solution should be good for my situation.

know your soils......   rice field is usually clay underneath.   good for holding water .   but better soil is needed

if you want a garden.  people selling "din dam" ....well,  there are many grades.  you must check it yourself (every load).   often it is very sandy.    And the general fill dirt is like you see on country roads. usually reddish in color ( be sure not too much rock in it...though some is ok).  packs down well.

worst stuff they can bring is clayish stuff, often grey in color

o do not forget to have a Thai inform the local OrBorDor office - who will give you permission and they charge a tiny fee - since probably several hundred truck loads are required and locals in villages often complain about road damage and dirt especially in the rainy season.

do this first .   truck fill people often say they will...but you are better off doing it yourself to be sure.  will pay small fee and "get permission"  .   and  get receipt  !

sometimes you can do the job "maow"....which means agree on price for whole job.  You must agree on how

high the fill will be from present height ( 1 meter higher or ? )  Then stakes are set/marked at that height.

Actually not a bad way to do it BUT  you need to do your calculations,  make sure the dirt is the proper fill dirt,  and that it is packed down well.   Worth the possible hassles ?   up to you .  But if you are someone who

will get upset when you see that the trucks are not filled to the brim  it could ease your stress  ?

You need someone you trust to be there and count the trucks coming in and unloading, noting the number  of loads for each truck (by license plate number) each day. That person should also check to insure they are full loads, just an eyeball check is all you can do.

When Wife & I did that once we had the family checking & the Neice had a Raffle book & gave out a number to each truck

How in blazes if you are a foreigner, can you get around the legalities of buying 4 rai of land in Thailand?

You are asking for advice that if a non-Thai, is an illegal activity. Sooner or later the authorities will have a purge on foreigners illegally buying large plots of land. Personally, I wouldn`t take the risk of investing in something I could never legaaly own, have no jurisdiction over and could be thrown off at any time. Good luck.

Right, what could possibly go wrong?

The police are really starting to clamp down on this now and it`s going to get tougher. It`s only a matter of time before Big Joke or others like him are going to start coming for illegal foreign land and property owners. If the OP cares to read in-between the lines of my post, he will notice that I`m giving him good advice. Don`t do it, otherwise as I said earlier, good luck.

Many levels of government can do that to people who think they own land in most countries, if not all.  Yeh they probably have to pay you some nominal amount but they can and do take land from people, change laws about what you can and can not do on/with the land....

Yes, some of us are in stable marriages and are helping our wives reach their full potential.

My wife has a lot of land in San Kamphaeng. We have many Rai to fill over the next few years, and the end of this year, she will start on building 6 small bans on the back of her property in almost the center area of SK to rent out to farangs that come to box.  She has just bought more land behind us with her father's help. I am legally married to my wife, and if I decide to throw in a few hundred K to help, that is business between my wife and I (and solely for me to lose and I understand that).  My wife is an Accountant; she has spent at this moment the last year in getting approval and dealing for land swaps for roads to complete and it is a lot of work. Everything moves slowly here and just talking it out over the neighbors over the road issues is hard enough as everyone has an ax to grind. Regarding the fill, we will have two of her relatives to give tickets out and her brother is an Engineer and will be checking out the fill of the trucks. We will most likely take off the topsoil of the fields to keep to use of the houses gardening plots. Be a long process. Expecting to take five years. Thanks for the information of this thread. Has been helpful.

Is there such a thing here??

Oh wait I almost forgot that for the past 12 yrs I've been with my wife she's always been 100% trustworthy.

As for checking each truck etc. also never had a problem with the guy we been using for 8 yrs. Of course we're around to help manage each project but more to help then to police.

Always some success stories........always some disasters.    And some in between.   Like in anything,

consider the risks and rewards ,  then go for it.     Or not   ?

I bought some land about 10 years ago.   Large piece was cheap,  but we had 2 other owners to negotiate

with for access.   Taxing process it is.  Glad to hear you have a good support team (family) to work through everything.   Good luck
