A Nigerian man has been arrested by tourist police for allegedly deceiving Thai women to wire him money in a so-called romance scam.

Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, held a press conference on Friday to announce the arrest of Martins Junior Ejike Ajejo, 39.

Surachet said Ajejo was arrested on Thursday following an arrest of a Thai woman, Prapinmas Nasutthi, 30, and her Nigerian husband, Gaius Eriamiate, 36.

Surachet said the couple were arrested on June 21 while withdrawing money from an ATM that had been wired in by their victims.

The couple implicated Ajejo as being part of the gang.

Surachet said Ajejo was accused of impersonating a handsome western man and deceiving Thai women that he had sent them a gift that was being kept at the customs office and needed money for customs clearance.

He would close his Facebook account and open a new one after getting money, Surachet said.

Surachet said Ajejo was first arrested on April 11 but he was later released without charges after his victim withdrew her complaint when she got her money back.

Greed Warning! Girls, if it seems too good to be true.....IT USUALLY IS!

Big Joke is fast turning into Big Boring.

With his giant size flow charts and photo ops he seems to trying to outdo the PM as Thailand's biggest glory seeker. The PM will soon pull him back into line if that's the case.

He seems to be performing a great job so why can't he just get on and do it without being such a blowhard and exhibitionist. All that is needed is sensible media releases without all the photos of himself and his colossal signboards.

Big cartoon like displays is what the general populace understands! If it could be presented in a lame soap opera like fashion even more people would take notice!

Amazing.

You get a scumbag off the streets and the usual 'statler and waldorf's' leap into the fray.

Forever seeking the cloud wherever a silver lining appears.

Yes big joke is flamboyant, media savvy etc.

Fact ( and it is an incontrovertible fact ) is that he is making inroads into removing a stain from the streets ..illegal criminal migrants and scammers.

Yes there is a long way to go.

You lot want him to cease?

Or continue on but keep quiet?

Do you think the british home Secretary and met police chief would keep quiet if crime stats were falling?

Thai Visa's bevy of belly-aching buffoons never let the reality of Thai police doing exactly as they are supposed to do get in the way of their contemptuous carping.

Maybe they'ed all be happier living in the only place I can think of that police and prosecutors don't do stand-up's after a major bust: Antarctica.

I knew a girl who met some guy online. She told me about how he would send her iPhones, etc, and how she would have to pay some import duty. I can’t remember the exact details. Anyway, I remember telling her it was a scam. Never send money to someone you don’t know for any reason. She was politely nodding in agreement, but at the same time, she kept looking for arguments to made about how it wasn’t a con. She really wanted it to be true.

It’s amazing how the brain works. How greed and lust, etc, can override some people’s basic survival instincts simply because we really want something to be true.

You’re talking like a true westerner. Asians like big shows and productions. You rarely see Asians donate anonymously... they want everyone to know. Its a cultural thing.

Not really, it's an ego thing.

"I knew a girl who met some guy online" .....

Reverse this ie I knew a guy who met some girl online and you just about described 99% of us blokes on Thaivisa.

"It is amazing how the brain works."

I once said to the air hostess in London this plank don't look much here but in Bangkok he's a SEX GOD.

Would i be right in saying there are a lot of Thai women looking for Farang? I might get the wife to auction me off I should be worth a million Baht lol eg Handsome man ( oops Thai saying)  Fit, social drinker, non-smoker. Intelligent, Healthy sex appetite.  I left out the most important thing Thai women love MONEY. I don't have much that might drop my price a bit lol But if it any compromise to these women we get these Nigerian schemers in Aus to

Big Joke is giving this as much publicity as possible meant to be as a deterrent to others.

I can`t believe there are idiots out there still falling for these scams. I receive scores of scam messages in my email spam box daily, never open them and they self delete within 7 days. I have no sympathy for those that do get scammed, those trying to live on false hopes or believe someone`s going to give them something for nothing.

Lucky guy...the only romance scam I've experienced was against me.....from a Thai chic......no crime there!

The fog inspectors are at it again
