From http://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/news/live-updates-teenager-football-team-trapped-thai-cave/ : "At 12pm Sunday, Workpoint News published a statement from Police Lt. Gen. Sommai Kongwisaisuk, the police commissioner for narcotics control, urging the press and the public not to believe rumours that the boys have caught up with drug traffickers inside the cave and that they may have been captured or hurt by supposed drug gangs. He admits that there is routes in the areas near the cave that have been found to be used in drug trafficking, but insists that this case is unrelated to drug smugglers and the boys are simply trapped inside the cave due to flood water blocking their way out." 1

Sure seems like seriously flawed reasoning and lack of critical thinking on your part. I don't think so. Thailand is objectively a very dangerous country to live in relative to most of the countries expats are coming from. But there are significant advantages of living here. So if you're going to live here and enjoy those advantages, it's only common sense to be aware of the hazards here, and actively try to mitigate them with cautious behavior. Just the facts That's ignorant to think kids are missing 8 hours by that evening much less 48 hours and because there is NO RAIN automatically makes it not an emergency. Then I guess if it happens in December there is no need to look for 13 kids in a cave until it starts running say in 6 months.

If that's the case then there are not enough advantages to stay here. Fact is LOS suffers the same problems pretty much all 3rd World countries share and that is mainly poor education. So if you live in any of these countries just plug the name into the post and stop bitching because you made the choice. Thing is I get tired hearing about how we do it back in NY, London etc which is what he is saying. If you decide to live here 21 years deal with it already. Do you think the Thais that have to be around this guy enjoy the constant Thai bashing. No wonder they have a negative opinion of farang not only here but everywhere. pura vida

Jingthing
It's entirely predictable after so much time and no people found (living or dead) that the fake news and rumor mills would be up and running. Vacuums need to be filled.

My point is if one chooses to stay here deal with it and don't continue here 21 years trashing the locals for every perceived flaw. No matter where you are talking about if it is your homeland you get tired of farang living in your country bitching constantly. Be intelligent enough to realize it just puts distance between you and the locals and serves no purpose except stroking ones own insecurities. It's what it is, just be quiet and live and let live or maybe better yet move on.

BangkokSausage
Really? How far would the locals have got without the extra help? (rhetorical question). We are talking 1st world highly trained teams that have not produced a result. With the rain subsiding they will get credit for mother nature doing her thing and hopefully saving the boys while the Thais of course will be bashed. Facts, the international teams have produced a big fat zero.
Popular Post natway09
It is obvious that most of the Thai Knockers on here have never set foot down a cave let alone done any real caving (potholing). I have had to spend 2 nights in a cave (Mailboy cave in Tuatapere) due to flooding & it is an experience never to be forgotten. We had natural water & plenty of carbide for our lanterns (so we had light) & never in danger but can imagine the near panic once the last torch was out of juice as they are only young people having to wait in total darkness. 24 hours from now , now they have achieved access to level 3 the outcome will be clearer Fingers crossed for safe return of all. 3

It doesn't matter where the rescue teams come from, how good their techniques are, how up-to-date their equipment is. Everyone is fighting nature at the minute. The international input into this rescue attempt is mostly support and advice, don't fall into the fantasy that they are supermen/women who can make everything good by themselves. 1

Had the Thais identified the emergency Saturday night and not waited to call in assistance it very well could have made a difference. Instead they waited for the rain and to their credit realized they were in over their heads (no pun intended) before calling in outside help. You are clueless as to if the outside response teams have made a difference or not but at the end of the day it was a wise move to bring them in.

Well it's an emergency. No big rain no emergency, kind of obvious really Until you can show us a link to where a team has found the boys then they are on a level playing field with the Thais. That's the cold hard truth. Nobody said they shouldn't have been brought in but many have said they are superior and will get em out.
