BANGKOK — The internet was surging with a rare emotion following the discovery of 12 boys and a coach trapped 10 days in a flooded cave: gratitude.

From drawings of the boys and the international rescuers to their boar soccer team mascot and creative depictions of the moment of rescue, here are some thanks-laden tweets under the hashtags #ThamLuang, #13LivesMadeIt and #TeamWildBoarAcademy.

Still a long way to go, praying for their safe return, and am glad that my Mrs has a good hold onto our kids, see these 4 walls, that's it she tells them, apart from going up the road to the soccer field or basketball court, there is no misadventure, no heart ache, gotta be cruel to be kind and keep them safe.

Would hate to be one of those parents having to go through the unknown, i.e. are they alive ?

Thankfully they are, and hopefully they will keep them close by from now on, but as the Thai's say, "up to you"

It's not healthy for a kids development to restrict them to 4 walls. I think the average age of the cave boys is around 14 and they were led in by their coach. Nothing you or your missus could have done to prevent your own kids from doing similar.

Fair comment, however just to give you the heads up, the 4 walls with limited time out, i.e.1 hour, 2 at best on a weekend to play soccer or basketball up the road is because twice 2 years ago, they were caught on the back of motorbikes racing at high speed 80/90km per hour when told to never go on the back of a motorbike, now they were 12 at the time, so they are now in prison, especially after they said they would never do it again, only to be caught the following week doing the same.

Now a month ago the school rang and said the boys didn't show up, asking if they were sick, we went to the school, sms messages were sent to their mobiles telling them to come to the school or they would be in serious trouble, friends in the class said they saw them on the back of a motorbike with another pupil who also turned up to school, but left with the boys, they showed up an hour and a half later with tails between legs.

Won't tell you the kind of punishment this prison dished out, but they make their beds, they lay in them, our house, our rules, and we have told them both, if they don't like the hotel they are staying in, they can go and live in their grandparents shack with no air conditioning and eat what they eat.

I won't tell you of the gangs that hang in the village and drug problem here, so each to their own, no manual on raising kids, but our manuel is a work and be rewarded manuel, do the right thing and be rewarded, do the wrong thing and be punished, don't like it, move, and we are dead serious about the tough love, we are not raising your typical Thai boys here, we are raising men, who wash their won clothes, iron their own clothes, sweep and mop the house, wash the dishes, clean their daughters baby bottles and sterilize, them, help mum in the garden, off to the grandparents to help in the rice fields.

Let teenagers to lose and you will pay the price, I was at the forefront of being a teeneager with no limitations when I was doing all the wrong things, however if I was kept busy doing chores and had homework, could have saved my shift working parents a lot of grief, so we learn from our mistakes and make them teachings with explanations as to why we are doing this and what will become of them if they want to go down another chosen road, like some of their friends, either dead from motorbike accidents, in jail because of dealing in drugs etc etc, internet allows them to communicate with their friends in the evenings, after their chores and homework, we won't to see results from our time and efforts and costs poured into our kids to become decent human beings, once they hit 18 they should be able to stand on their own two feet, as for getting into trouble, well, our job would have been done, the rest would be up to them.

Like I said, if they want freedom, they have to earn it and not become liars or soi dogs laying around all day. From what my wife tells me, the village wants to know how we cope because they cannot handle their kids, well, like I said, each to their own, and if you cannot be firm and stand by each other, your toast, your kids will run rings around you, and you wonder why kids don't stand for the elderly on public transport, no teachings, no results.

The Internet has become sentient and is expressing sentiment!

My greatest fear come true. (sorry, couldn't resist the headline).

Really love that drawing leading the article. Artists are rarely appreciated enough.
