Sorted .. I never knew that .. I was referencing the 500 without thinking about if the 750 was used competitively .. Mind you , you'd want a fat wallet to just buy let alone race one ..

I saw this on the local news the other morning, and was reminded of the Raleigh ad I posted a couple of pages ago.  Contrary to the description, it wasn't deadly, but very well could have been.  Motorcycling in India:

Saw a great bike last week in Oz.  A Suzuki Boulevard  600 or 650 single. Looked pretty good  to me.

Should  have taken a photo as the press release don't do it justice.

The one I saw looked liked a single cylinder Harley. Which was the reason it got my attention.

Couple of beautiful old Zenith's es'pesh the top bike ..

Anyone want to take a punt as to why the word " Barred " was incorporated into their emblem .?

A clue is in the bottom bike ..

I posted this photo in response to JG asking why Zenith Motorcycles incorporated the word "Barred" in their logo.  As no one else has replied to that, here's some clarification:

In 1905, when virtually all other manufacturers used a basic single speed belt drive transmission, Zenith came out with "Gradua Gear", a sort of manually controlled CVT system that varied the diameter of the belt-drive pulley while moving the rear wheel back or forwards to keep belt tension constant.  The system was controlled by the circled crank in the picture above.  Ride along, rotating the crank one way and the other to keep the revs in the best range, like a modern Honda car with CVT does automatically.  riders of other manufacturers' machines complained that this gave Zenith an unfair advantage, and they were barred from many competitions because of it.  In 1924, when the modern style gearbox and chain became the standard transmission system, Zenith went over to that.

Spot on B P .. I figured you'd worked it out in the first highlighted pic' ..

How terribly unsporting of them to invent such a device ..
