I'm sure Thailand will pick up on this as a money earner, probably in about ten years - maybe. Be nice if they got rid of the agonisingly horrible sound that the small bikes make, they sound like a cement mixer on steroids! & that's being kind! ????

Here's a couple of bike engines in planes .. My 81 y/o Dad is into his planes. He's owned several over the years, current one is a Grumman 4 seater with a 4 cylinder Lycoming engine. He was building an American Kit Fox kit airplane (STOL) till this year when he finally sold it (unfinished - 6th owner - no one has finished it!). Anyway that came with the common BMW twin as featured above, they run via gearbox to keep prop speed down. Next motor to replace it was a 2 stroke parallel twin Rotax which he sold to be replaced by a billet aluminium flat 4 Oz 4 stroke engine that was around 7k GBP S/H rebuilt, which did not need a g/box to run the prop. I've been around private planes a fair bit, but never seen a Yam Virago lump used. Common are VW Beetle motors, Citroen 2CV type flat twins are popular too. Back on topic, Yamaha fanboy 3.0 is back at it. Pretty stock XSR700 but with that RD400 paintjob by Dream Machine. I'm getting all emotional...

Moto Guzzi lumps are also known to be used like the military UAV in top pic' Mazda's rotary is also used in some app's .. The lack of vibration from these that makes 'em suitable to fitting in a plane is counterbalanced by their willingness to rev to oblivion so in a plane you'd have you're eye on the rev-counter a lot .. or the fuel gauge .. 50 minutes ago, thaiguzzi said: 675 or the newer 765? I know, confusing, innit? Checked the result on that an' its quoted as 675 Triumph .. an' like I said it sounded like a Trip' .. a glorious one .. The Norton V4 didn't do that well this year maybe in part that McGuiness contracted to ride it ain't fully fit after his horrendous off last year .. Ian Hutchison struggled also and he's had a few big whacks including on the mountain last year .. I'm of the thought that the IOM is the last place to race after big shunts like they had .. You're self preservation circuit cuts in too much trying to pulla fast time around 37 miles .. Edited June 8, 2019 by Justgrazing Edit

Popular Post ballpoint
An on board lap by Guy Martin on the Triumph 675 in 2015. No music, just the engine. One thing that stands out is, as if the narrow street circuit isn't bad enough, the multiple transitions between shade and bright sunlight must really make judging distance and spotting your racing markers difficult at that speed.

I have been following this build as well and as you put so well (Craig is a very talented fabricator with a nice eye for detail.) Simplicity but elegant in letting the engine be the star. I originally wasn't too sure about the burnt orange but boy did it ever turn out lovely

Steve Plater was on about this especially as the weather affected the programme so a lot of practice and some of the races were late aft , early eve when the light cast different shadows on the road to earlier in the day plus as the sun is dropping having it shining in you're mince pies .. The wonders of technology mean that easily available on board camera's give a realistic view of what a rider is seeing .. Consoles games have come along way since the days of Lego type bikes that handled like magnets on a board .. The most recent PS4/XBOX game " TT riding on the edge " is pretty realistic in cockpit view for the whole course ( plenty of vid's on Y T ) .. The physics of these games is pretty good now to the point of being simulators and accurately reflects how bikes behave with mapping in relation to movement that reflects real world accel' , braking , steering input resulting in highsiding , tankslapping , brake lockup , out braking yo'self , etc if you take the P .. or said another way if you want to post a good time you have to play as you would ride a bike for real .. and now with the increasing availability of V R headsets it will bring the terrifying experience of a lap into you're front room without ending up in A & E or worse .. ( though the choice of bikes is limited .. Developers missed a trick there .. if they'd included some of the older classic bikes complete with p*ss pot helmets it may have appealed to a wider audience ) .. An' go an' check the Y T vid's especially cockpit view ..
