This one appeared in two different comedy shows. Anyone care to name them? Here's a better look at the bike, a 1933 Brough Superior 1,096cc 11-50hp Combination. It sold at Bonhams' Spring Stafford Sale in April this year for £ 71,300. Edited September 5, 20196 yr by ballpoint

September 5, 20196 yr Popular Post Matchless Typhoon .. Hawker Typhoon .. The Spit' , Hurricane , Lancaster etc were the darlings of the RAF WW2 but this plane played a significant role also .. Conceived as a fighter to operate alongside the Spit' it was way too heavy and unwieldy for that and problems with the airframe and the monstrous Napier Sabre engine during dev' seen it nearly strangled at birth when the War ministry wanted production concentrated on the Spit' and H .. not to mention its alarming tendency to crash unexplained later traced to Carbon Monoxide ingress into the cockpit from the engine which rendered the pilots unconscious .. this was remedied by different shape exhaust stubs to deflect the gas away .. Problems ironed out and too cumbersome for dogfighting it found its role as fighter bomber particularly effective at attacking armour and train's carrying them with cannon and direct fire rockets .. The losses and damage inflicted on the Wehrmacht by these after D day was immense and the Germans took to taking cover if they heard any of them flying about looking for targets their presence being made by the unearthly whine of the engine .. September 5, 20196 yr Popular Post Still beautiful after all these years.......... Huge (air cooled) Monster fan here. Never been a big fan of any of the water cooled versions, inc the latest 821-1200's. Too busy, not clean enough. Rads, hoses, fans, yada nada da bing. However, IMO the greatest looking of them all, the S4R, particularly in the Tri Colore version. still looks stunning 12 years later... and certainly better than anything you can buy in 2019 showrooms.....

It's called going to the "dark side". They claim they are cheaper and provide more grip, particularly in the rain, while still allowing high speed cornering, and whole forums exist to discuss the best tyres to use. I've never been game to try it on mine, but I wouldn't mind having a ride on one to see what it's like.

I've never been game to try it on mine, but I wouldn't mind having a ride on one to see what it's like. To a degree I can understand the thinking behind using car tyres on the rear as the tread profile across the tyre is flat which would translate to a bigger contact patch with the road surface as opposed to a bike tyre which is more convex across the the width and has that much smaller contact area .. It is the leaning over to any great degree and the lateral loads imposed on the sidewall that would make me wary .. Gentle slight lean probably wouldn't be too much of an issue but Motogp style lean angles maybe not .. Maybe the best way is get another rear wheel with a car hoop fitted for you're bike and give it a go .. Go easy on Marquez style cornering until you've got some feedback though ..

A very good friend of mine in the UK, (we go waaaaay back), has had a Rocket 3 for a good few years now, put quite huge mileage on it, been all over the place with it, rides it, er, with gusto, and reckons 3,000 miles tops on a rear tyre. September 6, 20196 yr Popular Post Handmade 14 pot radial engine using Yam' Road Warrior barrels and heads to give a combined capacity of 11.9 ltrs .. And he's one of the static engine demonstration corps looking at it on the trailer .. I've seen Spit' engines just mounted on a trailer with a prop' up front at motor rallies and such .. They just fire 'em up and give it some big rev's for everyone to get deafened by the noise of an open piped legend .. Folk pay good money for this sort of thing .. BMW 801 is a real 41 litre 14 banger radial and was fitted in numerous German WW2 planes inc the FW190 .. Credited with being the first engine with an engine management system abeit not digital like today's systems but all critical engine settings like mixture , ign , engine load/speed and boost on forced aspiration versions were managed by one control .. At a time when pilots might have to adjust the mix' and timing separately and perhaps feather the prop' and at numerous times while concentrating on flying and dogfighting with you're foe having an engine that pretty much did it for you must have been a godsend ..
