And only about 20 mph slower than its big cousin.

But not restored........ IMO those early ST's were handsome bikes, pre FI and SSSA, a mate in Blighty has one, a Japanese import, and reckons they are becoming highly sought after. But yes, i concur, it is a pretty bike, cafe seat and retro tank. Here's what they look like stock...
Popular Post thaiguzzi
Million $ bike? Ducati exotica, one of the 7 Imola 750 bikes hand built by Ducati for the 72 Imola 200 won by Paul Smart, and hence putting Ducati on the big bike map. This is one of 3 known to still run, Paul Smart owns 2 of the 7. The fibreglass tank and seat hump and fairing have no paint on them. That silver metal flake IS IN the glass! 80 bhp, power band 6-8000rpm, nothing below 6. Oil capacity - 10 pints !!!

What a marvelous and evil bike. I saw an article where a guy who had ridden/raced something like who described the massive increase in power within a few hundred RPM when it "came on the pipe". Frightening. Maybe something like an electric bike with just an on/off switch but without any low-end torque. I'd love to ride one for 100 meters or so. The only bike I've ever ridden that was even a wee bit like that was a Maico 400 MX bike, and I didn't ride that far. First gear stuff...

Paul Smart's Ducati, do you mean these are the carbs. from that bike? I can't believe that a pure racing bike would have used CV carbs. EDIT - the original carbs. were very similar to the Dell'Ortos fitted on the 750/900 SS road bikes. BTW, Paul Smart was (is?) married to Barry Sheene's sister. Damrongsak
The guy who built that street legal TZ750 flat tracker replica said the power band is akin to a light switch: “When the revs hit about 7,000, it lights the back tire up violently—and at the same time lifts the front wheel, pulling hard all the way to 11,000,” says Brad. The original prototype builder Ray Abrams said: “There used to be a quarter mile dragstrip across the bay in Freemont, and I took the bike over there when it was still in the road race frame and it turned 138mph in around 9.5 seconds, in its stock form. So we knew it was going to be a whole lot faster!” Interesting info here: https://amcn.com.au/editorial/15482/

Popular Post Justgrazing
P38 Lightning or "fork tailed devil " as sometimes referred to .. Looking at it you'd think " fast " with twin Allison V12's with a combined out put of over 3000hp but it wasn't .. nor was it that manoeuvrable making it not very good for its designed aerial combat role but not unlike the Hawker Typhoon found a role more as a ground attack/bomber with 4 .50 Cal's and a fearsome 20mm auto cannon in the nose/cockpit along with direct fire rockets or a bomb load .. Some were used in the later part of the North African campaign and were also used to try and provide bomber cover over Europe until the 51 arrived but were more prevalent and quite deadly in the Pacific campaign .. Like a lot of old WW2 Warbirds they were chucked away at the end in the rush for jets but have now come full circle and the few that remain appear in airshows along with P51's and 47's .. .50's being test fired and sighted ..

And it still couldn't match a Merl' for power .. Check out the slash cut oval outlet stub from the turbo in the bottom pic' ..
