SI SA KET, 6th July 2018 (NNT)-Lopburi and Sisaket provinces have begun their annual fruit festivals to the delight of santol and durian lovers waiting to indulge themselves.

In Sisaket, people flocked to the fruit festival at Sisaket College of Agriculture and Technology to try ‘volcano’ durians which go for 160 baht per kilogram; the fruit is grown in the volcanic soil of the region. The festival is organized by local durian farmers and related agencies.

The festival, which continues until July 8th, aims to promote volcano durians among Thai and global consumers as well as establish more marketing channels. Sisaket is among several provinces in the North East of Thailand to have developed a durian growing industry.

To date, the most popular type of durian grown in Sisaket is Mon Thong. Other kinds of fruit such as rambutans, longans and mangosteens are also being sold at the fruit festival. Sisaket generates more than 500 million baht from selling this popular fruit each year.

In Lopburi, many people were seen visiting the 27th Sweet Santol festival which showcases different varieties of santols. More than 60 santol manufacturers are selling both fresh santols and santol-based products at the event being held until July 10th.

Visitors can also enjoy live music every evening during the fruit festival.
