Alternate cave entries sought as suffocation risk grows

Border patrol police on Friday morning descend by rope from a helicopter onto a hill above the cave.

 

CHIANG RAI — The president of the national engineering association on Friday said a drilling effort at the far end of the cave may help reach those trapped inside faster.

 

New alternative entries are being pursued as time runs out to rescue 12 young footballers and their coach trapped inside Luang Khun Nam Nang Non cave, an urgent effort that sacrificed a diver’s life in the early morning today.

If earlier reports are accurate (various info graphics and a video purported to be the narrow passage the kids will have to dive, swim and  navigate on their own), I fear such an apparatus may be too big and lack flexibility to be useful. 

That being said, these kids need to get out ASAP by whatever means.

I consider waiting out the rainy season as a non-option. It is almost certainly condemning them all to death.
