Between June 2023 and June 2024, roughly 6,600 people who explicitly answered no to the U.S. citizenship question at the Motor Vehicle Com were still registered to vote. Preliminary numbers show fewer than 400 of them actually cast ballots. The state is now removing them. That is not contested.The vendor involved is IDEMIA, a French company that has run New Jersey’s MVC systems for 40 years and also handles TSA PreCheck enrollment and other identity work across the U.S. Sherrill called it a "serious software error", IDEMIA says its system recorded the answers correctly according to the state’s own specifications and that the Division of Elections is responsible for verifying eligibility. Either way, non citizens ended up on the rolls and some voted. That is a real process failure under motor voter rules. The Washington Post source I can't read nor do i trust them to be honest.
