rooster59 Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Cargo container retrieval from sea to take days By The Nation The Trang Harbour Office said the operation to retrieve 16 containers that fell off a cargo ship in the sea off Trang province would resume on Monday. Commander Chatkul Wanitchanat, director of the Trang Harbour Office, said the operator of the MV.NP Love Gistic 2 ship could not find a crane on the barge to pull the containers out of the sea hence fishing boats would be used to tow them instead. But the operation would have to be wait until Monday when the rough seas caused by strong monsoon are expected to return to normal. The MV.NP Love Gistic 2 left the Na Klua Pier in Trang’s Kantang district to deliver processed rubber wood to Malaysia when the accident occurred. When it was in the sea between Koh Lao Liang and Koh Takian in Trang’s Paliang district, its rudder system malfunctioned causing it to go adrift. The ship tilted when it was hit by giant waves, toppling the 16 containers into the sea. Seven containers were later found washed ashore on Koh Sukorn in Paliang while another container ruptured and sank. The others were still floating in the seas. Chatkul said officials had marked the location of the sunk container with buoys to retrieve it later. He said fishing boats would be used to tow the containers to the nearest piers for the cargo ship to pick them up later. The entire operation would be completed no later than July 26, he added. Popular Post bluesofa Posted July 15, 2018 Popular Post Posted July 15, 2018 I hope the containers didn't have items like instant noodles - that would be a disaster. Unless they were seafood flavour, then no one would probably realise, they could still be sold. 1 2
Lupatria Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Next big wave will come to the shops selling cheap waterproof slightly wet laptops and phones with a certified test result.

Not sure there is much of a market for "processed rubber wood". But every once in awhile a ship actually does lose a container of something "shiny" and it makes it to shore. One container landed on a beach in the UK and was full of new motorcycles. Others have ruptured and allowed thousands of brand new, high end sneakers to wash up on shorelines (I think that was off the West coast of the USA ?). But a load of processed rubber wood ? I'll pass.
natway09 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 The amount of "lost"containers at sea would amaze you & as many float just below the surface are a peril to small ships ( I know 2 guys bringing their new yachts back from France who both hit containers (Luckily both insured & no loss of life 1

quadperfect Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 And tuesday night 3 meter swells return. Today its 1 meter and tomorrow but then more bad weather.tuesday. just shows how much people with power in marine industry understand weather forecasting immagine how far those containers will travel in 10 days have they marked them with transponders or navigation lights or what ?.
