Thailand set to become regional ICT centre

BANGKOK: -- Thailand has unveiled its policy of turning the country into the region's information and communication technology (ICT) centre.

The Thai Government will focus its efforts on using ICT, considering it a tool to develop the country, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Surapong Suebwonglee said at the opening ceremony of the Second General Assembly of the International Parlianmentarians' Association for Information Technology (IPAIT II) in Bangkok on Monday.

Suraphong revealed that the Thai Government intended to use ICT to strengthen all economic sectors and to achieve its prime goal of building a "knowledge-based society".

To that end, he added, the government will draw up strategies to cover five areas of development including e-government, e-commerce, e-industry, e-education, and e-society.

He, however, stressed the importance of e-parliament, saying the e-parliament must benefit all people.

The IPAIT meeting themed "Enhancing Digital Opportunities for Parliamentarians and Citizens through e-Parliament and ICT for Development" was organised by the Thai National Assembly in Bangkok from May 17-19.

For 'e-' please substitute dodgy, corrupt, incompetent, laughable or any other description that comes to mind.

They are trying to compete with Malaysia, where the standard of literacy in English is far higher, and India, where the pay-scale is far lower. Too little, too late.

Find aa new market, develop a demand in something that you have and others can be persuaded that they need. Don't follow like sheep, where others have already creamed off the profitable portions.

Will this include e-Football?

I guess they think it is all e-zz money.

Seems to be a mistake here in the use of the word centre. Surely, the correct term for all of these grandiose schemes being implemented in Thailand is hub? :o

I'd settle for a stable electricity supply first. Even when there isn't a storm the power supply is up and down like a bride's nighty, and when there is storm we lose power for hours.

Hysterical laughter , the phone system and everything else is too slow ,clapped out, and furthermore thais are too lazy and indolent to make this dream come true.

They have no idea when it comes to this coming true .

Their education system is totally fugged and is not able to support such a miracle.
