Australian man and former Nana nightclub owner found guilty of human trafficking

 

 

An Australian man who was the former owner of a nightclub on Soi Nana faces a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of charges related to human trafficking and prostitution.

 

Bangkok Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced Michael Pearl, originally from Sudan, to 19 years in jail, while accomplinces Ghassan Wakej, 36 from Syria, a Moroccan and two Thai nationals were each sentenced to 16 years in jail for forcing four Moroccan women into prostitution in Bangkok between 2016 and 2017.

 

The court heard how Pearl, who owned the Dream Disco located on the fourth floor of the Zenith Hotel in Soi Nana, promised the victims well paid jobs as waitresses but instead they had they had their passports taken and were forced to work as prostitutes, INN reported. 

 

Pearl was first arrested last August at Suvarnabhumi Airport as he tried to board a flight to the flee the country.

The Sudanese slimeball obviously wrangled a passport at some point.

I'm all for a bit of consensual fun.

Legalizing  the game would go a long way to protecting women who really want to play for pay.

Five jailed 16-19 years for forcing Moroccan women into Bangkok prostitution

THE CRIMINAL Court Wednesday sentenced an Australian to 19 years imprisonment and a Syrian, two Thais and a Moroccan to 16 years imprisonment for forcing four Moroccans into prostitution at a Bangkok pub.

 

The court read its verdict in the human trafficking case against Michael Pearl, 46, a Sudan-born Australian, Ghassan Wakej, a Syrian, 37, Chalad Narachan, 63, Aree Iamsaree, 46, and Hana Taoyuree (unofficial spelling), 38, a Moroccan, at 9.30am.

 

 

They were charged with violating the anti-human trafficking act, prostitution suppression act and the Criminal Code.

 

Pearl was accused of being the gang leader as he owns the Dream Disco Pub on the fourth floor of the Zenith Hotel where the four victims were forced into prostitution from October 2016 to March 2017.

 

Taoyuree was charged with luring and smuggling the four fellow Moroccan women into Bangkok via Laos by promising them job as waitresses, but they instead ended up being forced into prostitution.

 

The two Thai men and the Syrian were charged with detaining and assaulting the four victims to force them into prostitution.

 

After the four victims were rescued, two left the Kingdom to return to Morocco, while the two others remained as state witnesses.

 

The five defendants were released on bail by posting a Bt300,000 cash guarantee. They came to hear the verdict on Wednesday morning.

 

The court ruled that the five lacked strong evidence to dispute the charges against them and relied on their own accounts, while the public prosecutors had strong evidence and accounts from the victims.

 

 

The court found each of the five defendants breached two counts of the Criminal Code and were given two years term for each count, or four years.

 

Each of the five defendants were also given six years in prison for breaching each of two counts of the anti-human trafficking act, or 12 years.

 

Since the Australian owned the pub, he was also convicted of violating the prostitution suppression act by soliciting others for sex services. He was given an additional three years for this conviction.

 

Pearl was given a total of 19 years in jail, while the others got 16 years.

Why were they not handcuffed in the picture , he is even smiling.   I suspect they will get released soon after paying a brown envelope with millions of baht.

It must have under international pressure, or some NGO must have involved in the prosecution. Otherwise they would have freed long ago.

 

What happened to the Thai owned night club raids with 100's Burmese and Laotian girls rescued, we never heard anything later except illegal water connection ?

Am I reading the second report wrong?  They were released after posting 300,000 baht bail - for a 19 year jail sentence?  

On the plus side he can swerve 77 90 day reports every cloud.

Get it right Soi 3 is not Nana that is soi 4. The Zenith Hotel is on Soi 3

I wouldn't be happy going into a Thai court with that type of charge. Hope they get the rest.

Statistics show Aussie have the most crimes in Indonesia and Thailand with Brits coming a close second, unless thats changed in the last 6 months, OK bashers have a go at me?????
