torsten brack Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Good morning, what are the current procedures to get a Thai driving license. I am German citizen and holding and international and German driving license
Lamkyong Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 with respect sir i suggest you ask at the D L T in your area to get up to date info maybe answer to your request
jackdd Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Depends on your local DLT. Officially the 1968 IDP (for example the German one) is not valid in Thailand and thus you have to do all tests as if you had no license (seems to be the case in for example Pattaya). If you are lucky they accept it and you just have to make the vision and reaction test (for example Udon Thani)
KhunBENQ Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Endless discussions about the 1968 IDP. German Embassy says it is not valid for driving in Thailand. They also say that issuing a Thai DL based on the German DL is possible. If you take that word by word it would mean that the 1968 IDP is of no value for Thailand. There have been reports about the 1968 IDP being refused at certain DLTs. On the other hand I have no proof that the EU DL issued in Germany is accepted for issuing a Thai DL (as the embassy writes) without IDP. Now you are as unsure as before It is indeed advisable to go to your DLT office (which one?) and give it a try. I would be very interested to learn about the outcome. I just got a query from a German guy coming in September to Pattaya on visa exempt: can I get a Thai DL on that? I don't want to link, so search for: deutsche botschaft bangkok führerschein
