I have been informed today that a 15 months old infant (with its own passport) doesn't need to follow mother or father for a visa run and can overstay,  as (according to the info i got)  by law the toddler can't get punished or fined for overstay, its sound very strange to me.

Anyone has correct information on the matter ?

thanks for any help

It is correct that, while an overstay by a minor is in violation of immigration law, no penalty is imposed.

There are varying opinions on whether you should anyway, as a moral principle, try not to have your child break the law.

thanks for the info.
the suggestion was given by an immigration officer today at the infant mother on the border, telling her next time not need to take the child.

I dont like the idea, but i have been puzzled by it, guessing was not a good suggestion.
