BANGKOK — The BTS Skytrain will not post signs indicating where toilets are as the number of users could become overwhelming, the BTS chairman of Advisory Board said Saturday.

Anat Arbhabhirama’s remark during a phone interview came a day after a man defecated on the seat of a Skytrain carriage near BTS Phra Khanong and fled, leaving passengers to deal with the odor.

“If you really need to be relieved ask security guards, they will led you [to use the toilet] every time, but you must be escorted due to security concerns.

From what ive seen ,there doesn't seem to be any public toilets ..just "staff" toilets...by the time you found someone to accompany you past the security door into those "hidden" toilets it could all be too late.

"BTS chairman of Advisory Board said Saturday. Anat Arbhabhirama...Asked if the BTS has plans to build toilets meant for its near 700,000 daily passengers, Anat said the space for it is inadequate, adding that Japan and Singapore’s skytrains have no purpose-built passenger toilets either."

I notice he purposely cherry-picks systems without toilets.

London Underground has them and even publicises them in an online map:  http://content.tfl.gov.uk/toilets-map.pdf

Unbelievable....   Crapping on the train is bizarre, but not providing adequate, accessible public restrooms and signage?  The excuse not to provide basic services, sounded more of a protection of personal property (not for use by lowly undesirables)

They must have shop units that some enterprising person could change to a ‘convenience store’ and charge for usage?

That’s what happens in many town markets across LOS.

Singapore has clean, clearly-signed and map-located toilets at every train station. A local Singaporean citizen was the advocate for clean public sanitation facilities, saying that it was a requirement for being a First World country.

Thailand....... and it's BTS...... Never ceases to amaze me.... NOW DAYS..........

They 'think' they can make up any excuse 'for not perfoming' and THEY think everyone will believe their lies..............

Same as those in charge of the country..... Illegal Military Dictators......  It's a total Police state NOW DAYS..........

Nothing availble to the public (as free toilets) (because the Gov't 'Hiso's' all travel in their private cars).........

Getting worse DAILY.............

I used to hate how it was under Thaksin and Yingluck..... Now I hate it more.....

So sad for the Thai people if the aren't already Rich...... Pity for all the Beautiful  'poor' in Thailand..... NOW DAYS  in Thailand....

It amazes me that after nearly 3 Billion passenger trips on the BTS since 1999 and a one in 3 Billion accident, they are now calling on the BTS to provide toilets. There have never been toilets on public buses or vans within Bangkok either. The BTS is linked conveniently to many shopping malls, hotels and other facilities that are easy to get to from the stations. If I have a problem I just get off at the nearest convenient station. The BTS has staff toilets which can be used in emergency if you ask a security guard. The provision of public toilets within the station areas are a security risk. In any case it is the BMA's responsibility to provide public toilets close to the stations but not within, where necessary. Years ago they provided some of the high-tech cylindrical automatic toilets but they became unpopular due to the doors opening automatically before the customer had time to do his business!

Security concerns? With a toilet? What complete boll_cks! Not even sure the BTS has public toilets.

When swmbo and I first visited Thailand 35ish years ago, there were no public toilets. In BKK and other big centres, go to 5* hotels, only acceptable place.

Now, every mall, even in the boonies, has acceptable or even superb toilet facilities.

Compared to Malaysia, Singapore, we are surprisingly well served. The worst are at transport hubs such as Swampy, motorway services, etc.

I would expect any BTS facility to end up an unusable sh*thole...pardon the deliberate pun

The BTS has no interest in passenger care- there only intent is to make as much money as possible from the public .  They have been ordered by the courts to provide disabled access- yet they have delayed and delayed. There are still stations with no working elevators or any escalators.  The carriages are way over crowded and they refuse to add cars.   Now , the issue with toilets. I have often wondered why the BTS cannot provide toilet facilities when the MRTA can and do.  The reason is simple- they just don't want to spend the money.

The situation in Bangkok is getting worse and worse. Taxi's continue to refuse fares or ask for no meter and a higher than normal fare.  If you drive your own vehicle- the traffic is horrendous- made worse by ineffective policing; traffic lights that are not computer operated and a staggering number of toll booths when a single use smart card would alleviate all the stops.

However, the Bangkok Administration is more interested in putting hardworking vendors out of business so Bangkok can look like London and New York.

Almost every train station in Japan has toilets. This Arbhabhirama dude has no idea what he is talking about. But then again, it's not that surprising.

Of course it's not surprising. He's relying on the fact that 90% of the commuters have probably never been abroad and more than likely not google to check either.

I don't know if it has happened, but hopefully social media will spot his lies regarding this and ridicule him mercilessly.

well... considering how Thais love to sit on the throne and play with their phones without regard to other who may need to use the throne as well... by the time you actually enter a toilet after waiting in line for 20 minutes, it might also be too late.

The BTS is a 'Public Transit' ............. it should have 'clean' and 'maintained' public bathrooms........... BUT we have to learn to 'overlook' that this is current day Thailand........ Not improving.... Getting worse.............
