MOPH affirms no cases of avian flu in humans as yet

The Spokesperson to the Ministry of Public Health affirms that no avian flu patients have been found in the nation, but officials are enforcing strict preventive measures protectively.

The Spokesperson to the Ministry of Public Health, MD Supan Srithama (์สุพรรณ ศรีธรรมมา) said that after a recent outbreak of avian flu in winged animals in the Sam Ko (สามโก้) district of Angthong province, officials have advised 3 local residents exhibiting flu symptoms to seek medical treatment at the Sam Ko Hospital. The 3 patients have been diagnosed with the common cold and are recovering normally. Angthong officials have proceeded with the destruction of animal carcasses in the area. Meanwhile 2 other suspected avian flu victims in Angthong have been found to be infected with Influenza and are undergoing normal treatment.

MD Supan asiad that public health officials and local volunteers are working diligently in locating and monitoring ill or dead avians. MD Supan said that considerable effort is being taken to ensure that Influenza virus in humans does not mutate into the Avian flu virus.

The Public Health Spokesperson added that of the 400 suspected avian flu cases tested, none have been found to harbor the feared virus.
