Yeah maybe. Seeing my mate's dad in his 80's undergoing 'palliative care' dying a little bit every day, pumped full of drugs, literally the living dead. I've been in plenty of bars (Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Khmer) where I'd thought more than once- "If I die now, I'll die very happy!"

You know what I mean, right?

Happyness for some and sadness for the rest...

What slays me (pun very much intended) are all the posters here always so adamant to show respect to/for the dead, yet so quick to disrespect the living...especially right here on TV. Lighten up! :vampire:

Technically, you should have, as a minimum, a copy of your passport that includes a current visa. If not Police may well escort you to the lock-up until you post a bail and go get the above paperwork.

We can assume that the foreigner this thread is all about has no concern regarding the bail....:whistling:

...but for the rest of us - yes, you have right....

His point was that the deceased may not have had his wallet stolen as someone here suggested.

But he had obviously been out drinking and it appears that he had spent every last baht he had taken with him for the night.  That surely does seem a little odd?  His last drink must have cost exactly the same amount he had left on him.  What are the chances of that?

My reaction is three-fold:

1. This is one of those neutral reports (a person found to have died, most likely of natural causes) that people project their own opinions and biases onto.

2. People are used to seeing foreigners passed out in undignified poses. Especially in Pattaya. They were probably waiting for him to stir.

3. He was out drinking alone.

Hmmm! Alchohol poisoning might be a good place to start.

Got to say though that customer service at this bar sucks. Dead for 2 hours before anyone bothers to even check him?

For once no suicide, except, perhaps, by alcohol poisoning...

What a way to go indeed: on a pole in sin city, if only it didn't quite turn out as he may have imagined. May he R.I.P.!

...again....'mystified'....???

....anyone wonder where his wallet or bag or I.D. disappeared to...???

...or why he was left alone for so long...???

...someone's prompting...???

...never gonna hear what they really know....

Welcome to LOS....

or anywhere else for that matter.
Rules are simple, never take more cash than you want to spend or are prepare to loose
Most of the time, I do carry a copy of passport & visa, and medical insurance though.

In any case, sorry about the guy, may he RiP.

My cynical 2-cents: keeling over during a night on the town is not the worst way to go, imho beats several years of cancer operations and treatment in any case.

Well, we don't know, but maybe he was having a good time at least up to then. Maybe he died quickly after a good night. Better than falling off a balcony or being stabbed by a bargirl, ladyboy, or angry Thai wife.

Pretty good, ever heard of tips?

Many people in more civilised countries only realize that there's something wrong with their direct neighbour when the postbox is full and a strange smell comes out of the door.

Still, a very sad way to go.

More probable is a Pulmonary Embolism.Shortness of breath.went the pole to steady ones self.Slumped down and died.Would have looked like he was sleeping a few beers off. There was no body fluid. So no body funktion was lost as in most heart attack deaths.I do not blame the thai,s on this one.You see drunks sleeping it off,all over pattaya and the likes. He would have felt a bit off colour.as we all do at times.a painless death.Sad that he was so young.

No, not at all. It is a reflection of the area in which he was in, and of his socio demographic characteristics.

Most likely a heart attack.  When the left ventricle blocks you have a limited window to respond before you die. It's why it is called the widow maker. Perhaps he was just a typical patron of the bar and it was used to people passing out.

a little off topic but i heard recently that violent coughing can stave off the fatal symptoms of a heart attack

Exactly my point... We have become distanced from our neighbors.

I remember when I knew everyone in the streets around our house and could pop into to any house for a snack !!

"Social" media has isolated us from reality..

SPOT-ON!

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seemed in order. Without help the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel Faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a phone and, between breaths, call for help.

Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives!

No doubt they were not out cold and on their knees

It wasn't too long ago, last winter in England, people were taking selfies of a homeless man lying on the ground, frozen to death. Let's not get too precious about the superiour farang humanity.

A lot of people got what I was saying, and the few short of a quid didn't, so here we goes one more time for the slow ones.

The farang was in a touristy area, he was down on his knees, up against the wall, his lights were out, now if someone with half a brain couldn't work it out:

A) Is this guy drunk and out cold

B) Did he have a heart attack

I could go on, but hopefully those posters that didn't get it, now get it, i.e. we are Thai society, we like farang, they put food on our table, we take care you, obviously not in touristy areas as it wouldn't have taken two seconds for someone to walk up to him, check his pulse, or his breathing and call for assistance, but nope, look, another stupid drunk farang spend all his money on alcohol.

Has anyone found out what he passed from ?

I gather you mean, a sad reflection on what Thai society have become, sad part about it is, its always been that way, in other words if this was in a western country, I am 99.9% certain passers by would have checked in on him more earlier that 2 hours or at least called for some support group or police to attend much earlier than to sit and stare and ponder while eating grass.

No ID tells me some shallow punk took his wallet while he was deceased, sad, really sad this Thai society in the touristy areas, I hope they get what Greece got back in the 90's, very few tourists because of their selfishness, sending many businesses against the walls.

There are possibly a number of things we armchair detectives are unaware of in this case due to cr@p reporting.  You might be 100% right but if the area was out the traffic zone he might well have not been noticed for a while.  Perhaps give it the benefit of doubt before employing full Thai bashing mode.

I don't know what this has to do with my post. In tourist areas farang are their own worst enemy, at least in places like Pattaya where they throw all scruples overboard and let out the inner animal. Thai's in normal surroundings are just as caring as any other nationalities, farangland is no better or worse, there are people who for instance try to help the homeless and others who kick them as in London recently or set fire to them as in Berlin a few days ago. It is wrong to point the finger at Thais in general because he was left like that for two hours, in that area Thai's would be used to drunk farang making pigs of themselves how were they to know he was dead, for them it was just another drunk farang scenario.
