Surat Thani durian orchard owner detained after shooting suspected thief

The owner of a durian orchard in Surat Thani’s Muang district surrendered to police after allegedly fatally shooting a man he suspected of stealing his fruit early Thursday morning.
 

Sukhon Sutthirak, 56, faces a murder charge after being arrested by police inside his durian orchard in Tambon Kradae.

 

The suspected thief has yet to be identified. He was shot once in the forehead with a .357 revolver.

 

Sukhon told police that many of his durians had been stolen from the trees over a period of several days.

 

He said he heard sound of a durian hitting the ground so he ran out to check and saw two men running away while another man remained in the the tree.

 

Sukhon said he shouted to the man to get down but the man shouted back that he had a gun. He added that the man appeared to be reaching for his weapon in the pocket of his shorts so he fired once at him and ran.

 

When the shot proved fatal, he told his wife to call the police.

There was a time when it was fair game to shoot looters. Can't protect yourself or your belongings anymore because the only people who have rights now are the criminals and scumbags. If the cops would have caught these three at it they would have been invited/taken in for a chat when they aren't too busy, throw around a few fake wais and maybe pay a small fine. Theft used to be considered a serious crime and rightly so. Why should normal & honest people even bother trying to do things the right way, when lazy criminals that can't be arsed to work or contribute think it's OK to steal what has taken someone else lots of effort to bring about? Society would be a whole lot better if if theft/robbery was treated much more seriously.

I'll give the owner top marks for giving the guy one between the eyes at some distance with a hand gun.i would be over the moon with a shot like that.anyway that's the last time anyone will nick his fruit.hope he gets off the charge.

If that is a Licensed gun he's got a good chance to get off the charge.

It is sad this guy is in jail.  The other 3 choose to steal his durian.  That's why this happened.

Hope this farmer gets off. Of course, if he were a rich Thai, it wd be self defence, no arrest.
