NONG KHAI, 27th July 2018 (NNT) - Water levels in the Mekong River in the Northeast of Thailand remain high due to continuous rainfall.

In Nong Khai province, the water level in the Mekong River has declined slightly to 9.2 meters below the embankment in Tha Boh district. Despite the lower level, water pumps have been installed to drain the water on Pracha Uthit Road should the river overflow the embankments.

In Bueng Kan province, the water mass from the North and other recent rainfall have caused the Mekong River to flood nearby communities and farmlands. Beung Kan Governor Nirat Phongsittithaworn has instructed local authorities to survey the damage and warn people of possible flooding.

In Kanchanaburi province, a group of volunteers and rescue officers walked for nearly two hours through the forest to deliver relief bags to residents of Ban Kog Saderg Community in Sangkhlaburi district after severe flooding and mudslides made it impossible for vehicles to enter the area.

Meanwhile, in Nakhon Nayok province, the Director of Khun Dan Prakarnchon Dam Operation and Maintenance Project, Jetsada Boonsuya, led a group of reporters to inspect the dam.

The dam is made of concrete and is only 53% full.

Jetsada told reporters that the dam is inspected on a daily basis for safety reasons.
