What's ironic is that these foreign-owned businesses in Pai appear to have played a major role in making Pai an international, and in particular Israeli, tourist hot spot, and if the Thai government successfully shuts these businesses down, it's probably going to result in a significant drop off in tourist traffic. Don't get me wrong, I was as horrified as anyone at seeing how a Woodstock/Golden Gate park 'be-in' ambiance, totally oblivious to the local culture seems to have taken root in Pai. I'm just saying that, unfortunately, that's what appears to have attracted many people there, and if Thailand drives these foreign businesses out, I have a feeling foot traffic to Pai might drop off, at least for a while.
